Carol Dee Petersen, of Hyrum, UT. age 80, born Aug. 23, 1937. Peacefully passed away Aug. 16, 2018, at the Intermountain Medical Center in Murray, UT. She passed away from complications due to heart, lung and liver failure. She was surrounded by her loving family. She was the daughter of Lester Don and Delores Lewis Leishman. She married Farrell Dean Petersen in the Logan LDS Temple on July 27, 1956. They have three daughters. Mary Leisa Moore of Riverton UT., Deborah Leigh Gubler of Smithfield UT, and Kathryn Deniese Bilet of Anchorage, AK. She has five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Carol was a lifetime resident of Cache Valley. She graduated from USU with a degree in secondary education and early childhood along with receiving composite majors in English, speech and theater. She also received her master’s in elementary education and endorsement in administrative supervision.
Carol was a dental assistant for Dr. Vern B. Eyre and taught school for 25 years at Lincoln Elementary, Providence, River Heights and South Cache Jr. High schools. Carol Dee was recognized by the Cache County Board of Education as an outstanding educator. She later retired from teaching in January 1997.
Carol enjoyed the theater, whether it was performing or in the audience. She starred in many musicals and plays. She was in several different productions throughout her acting career; examples are: "Sound of Music," "Annie," "Song of Norway," "Damn Yankees," "The Boy Friend," "Camelot," "Steel Magnolias," "My Fair Lady," "Unsinkable Molly Brown," "Kismet," "Hello Dolly" and "The King and I."
Singing, music, community involvement and being an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints were a huge part of Carol Dee’s life. She has been a member of the Towne Singers group for over 46 years. She led and directed numerous events within her ward, stake and community areas to include the Cache Community Theatre. She has served in many capacities in the church, temple worker, stake and community along with being involved in the ROTC sponsor core at USU. She was an active member and 5-year president of Delta Kappa Gamma as well as president of the Hyrum Literary Club.
Life has been very eventful for Carol. She was a two-time survivor of ovarian cancer. She was crowned Ms. Utah Senior in 1999 and enjoyed her reign. Helen Trent (from an old radio show) said, “Life begins at 40.” Wrong!! Carol Dee says, “Life begins at 60!”
She enjoyed oil painting, flower arranging, decorating and genealogy. She loved her family and the sisters in the South Towne Bridge Club. They helped her through her bout with cancer. She also enjoyed talking and helping others who needed encouragement in fighting cancer.
Carol said that now she is retired, she is taking every opportunity to help others reach their potential and to be an example to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren by giving them two everlasting gifts, their roots and their wings!
We would like to thank Dr. Micheal Stones for his many years of care for her health needs.
She is survived by: her spouse-, Farrell Dean Petersen; and daughters, Mary Leisa Moore (Colin), Deborah Leigh Gubler (David) and Kathryn Deniese Bilet (Rolf).
