Dr. Carole Ann Golden passed away October 29, 2006 following a courageous battle with brain cancer. She was born September 23, 1942 in Los Angeles, California.
Carole lived and attended school in Blanchard, Oklahoma where she graduated in 1958. She received her Bachelors Degree from Oklahoma College of Liberal Arts in 1963. She recieved her MS and PhD in microbiology and immunology in 1973 from Miami of Ohio. Her first position after receiving her PhD was at the University of Utah College of Medicine. During her tenure there she served as the Senior Consulting Scientist for NIOSH Contracts.
In 1978, Carole made a move from academics to industry when she became Vice President and Scientific Director for Microbiological Research Corporation of Bountiful, Utah. In 1987 she moved to North Carolina where she served as Vice President of Research and Development for Editek (Medtox Diagnostics) and later for Xanthon, Inc. Carole returned to Utah in 2003 to work once again in the academic setting at Utah State University as Life Science Manager of Technology Commercialization at the Research Foundation.
Carole was a member of the prestigious Mensa International, and the New York Academy of Sciences. She was also acknowledged for her accomplishments in Who's Who in America.
Carole had a great love for her dogs. She also loved to read, travel, and experience the great outdoors. Carole always shared generously with those around her. She willingly gave of her knowledge and time. She enriched many lives and will be truly missed.
A sister, Deborah Jean Golden, and her grandmother, Nora Hasting, preceded Carole in death. She is survived by her mother, Betty Golden Graves, her stepfather, Wendale Graves of Akron, Colorado and three stepsisters. Carole will be missed deeply by MelRee Krivanec, a special friend of twenty years, and many "adopted" children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
There will be a viewing for the family prior to funeral services. Services will be held at the Smithfield, Utah Eighteenth Ward Chapel at 625 East 600 South, Smithfield, Utah at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 1, under the direction of Allen-Cranney Mortuary, 420 East 1800 North, in North Logan. Interment will be in Chickasha, Oklahoma. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Carole's memory may be made to Huntsman Cancer Foundation, 500 Huntsman Way, Salt Lake City, Utah 84108.
