Carol Jean Lewis Larsen

July 25, 1931 — October 17, 2006

LOGAN, Carol Jean Lewis Larsen, 75, passed away peacefully on October 17, 2006 at the University Medical Center due to complications from a stroke. She was born July 25, 1931 in Kemmerer, Wyoming to LeRoy Madoc Lewis and Theodora Mae Rosenstein Lewis. At the age of six, she came to Logan and was raised here by her grandparents, Thomas and Esther Lewis and her beloved aunt, Lois Peterson.
Carol graduated from Logan High School where she participated on the swim team. She enjoyed the company of her “gang” of friends from the Logan 2nd Ward where she was selected to be the Queen of the Gold and Green Ball. Following her graduation, she went to work at Logan Laundry and Dry Cleaners as a bookkeeper. She married Darwin W. Larsen on August 20, 1954 in the Salt Lake City Temple. She and Darwin opened Al’s Trophies & Frames where she worked tirelessly for almost 40 years. She loved her work, especially the lifelong friendships she forged with her customers and suppliers. She was active in the PTA and won many awards for her skill in archery.
As a member of the Logan 3rd Ward, Carol served as the Sunbeam teacher for many years. The children in her class left each Sunday with a star on their foreheads for being good. She loved having her primary children in her home again as teenagers and fed them countless treats and aebleskivers (Danish Pastry). She was a marvelous cook and never allowed visitors to leave without being fed. Her cinnamon rolls, cookies and creations were spread throughout the neighborhood and all across town to her countless friends. She loved to send birthday cards to everyone she knew; her calendar was so full of names that you could not read the numbers.
Carol spent countless hours in her gardens and dearly prized her roses. She had a profound love for animals. Every dog in the neighborhood came scratching and barking at Carol’s door for the love and attention she lavished upon them and her endless supply of snacks. She raised several parakeets who she taught to speak. Her bird Pretty Boy had an outstanding vocabulary and was an exact mimic of Carol’s voice.
Carol and Darwin owned apartments and several tenants were adopted into Carol’s family. Dave & Mae Ure of Kamas and Ken & Donna Hansen of Garden City were her most special tenants and she loved them and their children dearly. Carol spent her life in the tireless service of others. She loved to care for those whom she loved. She spent years caring for her father-in-law, Al Larsen, her aunt, Lois Peterson and her daughter, Cindy, doing all she could to ease their burdens. The crowning jewels of her life were her granddaughters and great grandchildren whom she loved dearly. At Christmas time, Santa could not compete with “Nana,” as her grandchildren lovingly referred to her. She left us a legacy of love and memories that we all will cherish. A special thanks to her dear neighbors, Russ and Yvette, whose love and constant care allowed Mom to live independently for many years and to Dr. Jeff Strong and his staff .
Carol is survived by her brothers Frank (Muriel) Lewis, of Dickinson ND, LeRoy “Bugs” (Loretta) Lewis of Kerney, AZ; her two sisters Sidney (Cory) Allen of Hyrum, Betty Kae Moceika of LaBarge, WY. Her children: Cindy (Kevin) Chugg of Logan, UT, LaRon Larsen of Logan, UT, Vint (Guyann) Larsen of Hyde Park, UT, Corry Larsen of Anchorage, AL. Grandchildren: Carrie, Kellie, Jamie, Carly, Cheyenne and Dana; four great grandchildren, Andrew, Jack, Abigail, Kaden and two more to arrive in March. A dear aunt, Connie Hammond and a cousin, Sharlyn Floyd whom she loved like a sister.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Darwin W. Larsen, and four special aunts, Thelma Hansen, Phyllis Hull, Lois Peterson, and Mary Macey.
