Caroll Jean Gibbs Sorensen passed away on Sunday, May 17, 2015 at the home of her daughter, Linda McGee in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was born May 26, 1926 in Mendon, Utah a daughter of Edward LaVern and Vessie Shelton Gibbs.
Caroll’s early childhood years were spent in Park City, Uah; Malad City, Idaho and eventually to Guernville and Grass Valley, California. In November 1937, Caroll’s father was killed suddenly in a car accident. This brought 11 year old Caroll and her family back to Mendon to be near family.
Caroll attended school in Mendon until the completion of the eighth grade. She attended junior high school in Wellsville and graduated from South Cache High School in 1943. Following gradudation Caroll was employed at the Army Supply Depot in Ogden. In the fall of 1944 she moved to Inglewood, California and worked at North American Airlines. Caroll married her high school sweetheart, Allan Jensen Sorensen on June 23, 1948. Allan passed away on December 26, 1999.
Caroll and Allan were the parents of six children, all raised in Mendon: Melanie Hatch, Mendon; Val Sorensen (JoLynn), Logan; Jean Hess (Rodney), Boise, Idaho; Linda McGee, Salt Lake City; Craig Sorensen, North Logan and Rex Sorensen, Salt Lake City.
Caroll will be remembered for her love of family and many wonderful qualities including a deep sense of gratitude, love and respect for her parents, hard work, determination and a positive mental attitude. While living in Mendon and raising her family, Caroll was involved in community and school activities as well as Cub Scouts. She has been a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and has served in many positions in the various auxiliaries. She has had many friends and especially enjoyed her Pinochle club from which close lifelong friendships evolved.
Caroll will be greatly missed by those who survive her: her six children, 18 grandchildren, 16 great grand children with twin great granddaughters due soon. She is preceded in death by her siblings: an infant sister, Garold Shelton Gibbs, and Harvey Gibbs.
Caroll’s family wishes to express sincere gratitude to granddaughter, Leslie Hatch; daughters Melanie and Linda with their compassionate care for Mom in their homes the last several years. We also express our appreciation to Dr. Brian Carlson for his professional and compassionate care for Mom.
