Carolyn Jensen

HYRUM - Carolyn Nielsen Jensen, 76, of Hyrum, died at her home following a long illness on Thursday, January 19, 2012. She was born May 7, 1935 in Hyrum to Grant S. and Gladys Lundberg Nielsen. Carolyn spent her early years growing up in Hyrum, attending Lincoln Elementary and South Cache High School.
Carolyn married Boyd V. Jensen on December 27, 1951 in the Logan LDS Temple, while he was home on leave from the Navy. She was able to travel with Boyd some of the time while he was active in the Navy. While stationed in El Centro, California, they had a son, Randall Wayne. They moved back to Cache Valley and had a daughter, Catherine Lynn. They lived in Logan while Boyd finished his schooling at Utah State University and then moved to Malad, Idaho where Boyd taught high school. In 1960, the family returned to Hyrum where Boyd resumed his teaching career in the Cache School District and they raised their family.
Carolyn was active in the LDS Church and enjoyed many callings. She served as ward Librarian for 19 years. She served in many other callings including working with the young women sports program and Jr. Sunday School chorister.
Carolyn very much enjoyed her years as a teacher's aide at both River Heights and Millville Elementary schools. Carolyn was an excellent bowler. She enjoyed participating in League bowling for many years. Carolyn had many close friends throughout her life. Her favorite time was spent with her Thursday afternoon 'Club', socializing and enjoying each others company. She loved to entertain and was an excellent housekeeper. She loved to decorate her home and made each room beautiful and inviting. Carolyn enjoyed cooking for her family on every special occasion, and made each holiday exciting for her grandchildren. Her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren are her greatest joy.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Joyce Petersen and Varrell Nielsen, and one brother, Garth Nielsen.
Carolyn is survived by her husband of 60 years, her children, Randall (Melanie) Jensen and Cathy (Doug) Leatham, all of Hyrum, four grandchildren, Jessica (Kevin) Johnson of Hyrum, Lindsay (Tony) Meier of Logan, Ben (Lauren) Leatham of Logan, and Stephanie Leatham of Nibley, and eight great grandchildren, Kaden, Tyler, Emily, Jacob, Rachael, Adam Johnson, and Hallie and Gunner Meier. She is also survived by two sisters, Charlene (Mel) Larsen of Hyrum and ArlaDene (Theo) Thomson of Logan, and one brother, Cardell (Debbie) Nielsen of Hyrum.
The family would like to thank Access Hospice, especially her nurse, Diane Crockett and her staff for the loving care they provided Carolyn.
Honoring Carolyn's wishes, no funeral services will be held.
Graveside services will be held at 12 noon on Monday, January 23 at the Providence City Cemetery. A viewing will be held from 6-8 PM on Sunday evening and from 10:30-11:30 AM on Monday prior to the graveside services at at Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center Street in Logan.
