Carolyn Jean Clark Petty Strong passed away peacefully in the early hours of Saturday April 21st in St. George, Utah at age 87. She is survived by her eight children, Lee Ann (Claron) Brenchley, Shaunee Davis, Scott (Anna) Strong, Nancy (Douglas) Brook, Kathy (Calvin) Jensen, Tecia (Kayle, deceased) Adamson, Becky (Dan) Wheeler, Jeff (Sara) Strong, many grand and great-grandchildren, three sisters and one sister in law. She will be missed dearly and remembered for her kindness and love and her grace and grit in enduring the hardships of life, while never losing her smile or optimism.
She was born June 3, 1930 in Logan, Utah to parents she adored, Harold J. Clark and Lucile B. Owen Clark and was raised mostly in Ogden by her mother and loving stepfather Russell B. Petty, who she also adored. In her youth Carolyn loved school, reading, music, swimming, and her family. Most of all, she treasured time with her seven siblings. She was known for her beautiful black hair and blue eyes and her gentle and kind personality. She married Robert E. Lee Strong in the Logan Temple in August 1948 and together they had seven children, later adding a foster daughter, and raising them in Springville, Utah where she lived most of her life. She enjoyed cooking, canning, and sewing and had a deep, abiding faith in the Gospel of Jesus Christ. She loved serving as an ordinance worker in the Provo Temple. She had unwavering trust in God, which sustained her through both the joys and the hardships of life. She shared and taught her faith and inspired those around her simply and quietly by the way she lived her life.
She spent her final seven years, peacefully and happily, in Smithfield, Utah where she made a new circle of friends and enjoyed reading mystery novels with those beautiful blue eyes, just like she did as a girl.
Among her immediate family members and descendants, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, and her grandchildren Phil Brook and Cindy Jensen Smith.
Funeral services are under the direction of Allen-Hall Mortuary. Her funeral will be held on Saturday April 28, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 555 Averett Ave, Springville, UT 84663. The funeral will begin at 11:30am. There will be a reception at 10:30am, prior to the funeral, for Carolyn’s family, friends, and neighbors – everyone is welcome to attend.
