Casper Berry

Marion Casper Berry passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Oct 5th, 2022 in Logan Regional Hospital.

Casper was born May 21, 1938 in Batesville, Mississippi to William Francis and Connie Beatrice Berry. He enjoyed his youth surrounded by cousins in Senatobia, MS. At the age of 14 his family moved to Salt Lake City, UT. Casper attended Eastside High School. He enjoyed playing football until his father found out, but he kept his love of football until last Sunday, watching the games in between General Conference sessions.
He married Sharie Louise Blumel on September 19, 1955. Together they had two boys, Ted and Scott. They later divorced.

On September 10, 1960 he married MaryAnn Unsworth. They were later sealed in the LDS Temple. Together they had four daughters; Christy (Don) Grove, Zane (Mike) Breese, Ann (Greg) Powell and Nicole. Their family is filled with 20 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his oldest sister Nina and youngest brother Russell. He will have a sweet reunion with his siblings Carol, Dovie, and Shirley.

Casper held many callings in the LDS Church. He loved serving people, literally. Casper cooked and donated many church spaghetti dinners, he fed the neighborhood widows on Fast Sundays, donated team meals at local high schools and Big Blue luncheons. He was a master in the kitchen, and had been a chef for many years at Brattens in Salt Lake, managed Little America Coffee Shop in Salt Lake, was the General Manager at Little America, WY. He owned restaurants in Arizona, Montana and local restaurants such as the Foundry in the Emporium (you may know it as the Coppermill) and Zanavoo in Logan Canyon. Zanavoo was his dream restaurant serving wedding luncheons, Valentine’s buffet, company Christmas Parties and developing his own salad dressing “Casper’s” which he and his children, marketed to grocery stores in Utah, Idaho, Wyoming, Nevada and Alaska.

Casper loved banana pudding, pecan pie, motor homes, camping, pulling up a chair and chatting with customers, and visiting his southern family. He had many sayings but one of our favorites is: “There are 3 things there is no substitute for, butter, cream, and the love of a good women.” MaryAnn is his greatest love.

We would like to also thank the many physicians and medical personnel that took care of Casper over his lifetime.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 8th at 11:00 AM with a viewing prior from 9:30-10:30 AM at the Providence 8th Ward, 155 N. 100 E. in Providence. A viewing will also be held on Friday October 7th from 6:00-8:00 PM at Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 E Center St. Logan, Utah. A complete obituary will appear online at www.allenmortuaries.com .
