C. Earl Israelsen passed away peacefully on March 14, 2010, surrounded by family members. He and his wife Marilyn spent 57 adventurous years together.
Born to Victor and Eva Israelsen on April 21, 1928, in Hyrum, Utah, he was the seventh of 11 children and a faithful lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Earl grew up in Hyrum and North Logan, Utah, and graduated from South Cache High School. He served a three-year mission to the Netherlands followed by nine years in the U.S. Air Force and Reserve. While stationed in Denver, Colo., he met his eternal sweetheart, Marilyn Hilton. They were married in the Logan LDS Temple on April 15, 1953.
He graduated from Utah State University with a Bachelor's of Science degree in civil engineering and received a Ph.D. in hydrology from the University of Arizona. He was employed by Utah State University, where he worked at the Utah Water Research Laboratory.
Over the course of his career, Earl, Marilyn and family spent time working and living in Venezuela, Pakistan and Egypt.
During his life, Earl served faithfully in many church callings including bishop of the Utah State University Fourth Ward for seven years. Earl and Marilyn served three missions: a CES mission in Boston, Mass., a temple mission in Madrid, Spain, and an LDS Employment mission in Logan, Utah. The gospel was truly the driving force in his life.
Earl leaves behind his beloved wife, Marilyn; eight children and their spouses: Ron (Sheri), Brent (Dana), Margie (Hoyt), Brian (Megan), Linda (John), Cheri, Juli (Ron), Kyle (Jan); 37 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Earl is survived by six of his siblings: Floyd, Eva, Dee, Glen, Wanda and Wanee. He was preceded in death by his parents, Victor and Eva Israelsen; and by four older brothers, Eugene, Lyle, Wayne and Don.
A viewing will be held Tuesday evening, March 16, 2010, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Allen Mortuary, 420 E. 1800 North, North Logan, Utah. Funeral services will be held at noon Wednesday, March 17, 2010, at the North Logan Stake Center, 2750 N. 800 East, North Logan, Utah. A viewing will be held prior to the funeral from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Interment will be at the North Logan Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Perpetual Education Fund.
