HYRUM, UTAH - Cecil Calvin Hugie 82, after a lingering illness, passed away at his home among loved ones on Saturday, January 16,2010. Cecil was born on Apri122, 1927 to Calvin and Olive Hugie in Hyde Park, Utah. Most of his growing up years was spent in Logan.
He married Lois Savage on May 31, 1945 and they have spent their entire 65 years of married life in Hyrum, Utah.
During WWII, Cecil served for 18 months with the Navy on the USS Sumpter. After his military service, he was employed with Pacific Fruit, Hill Field, Thiokol, and later retired from Ogden Defense Depot.
After retirement, he assisted Lois in numerous sewing projects that included The Glen Miller Show, costumes for universities and high Schools through out the west, and the Pickleville Playhouse.
Throughout his life, he enjoyed activities that included hunting, fishing, boating, waterskiing, and traveling with his family. He was very dedicated in keeping a daily journal. He took great pride in planting a huge garden each year for the benefit of his family.
He was actively involved in the LDS Church and served in many capacities there. He was a great example to his loved ones.
Preceding him in death are his parents, Calvin and Olive Hugie; three brothers Val, Rex and George; two sons Alan and Gary; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his sweetheart Lois; two sisters Jenette McPolin and Bonnie (Keith) Schnare; and the following children: Karen (Ivan) Lewis, Dave (Arlene) Hugie, Mary (Jerry) Busenbark, Clair (Gay) Hugie, Cindy (Garry) Roper, Lois (Garth) Low, Calvin (Diane) Hugie, and Nyla (Kelly) Johnson; and a daughter-in law Pam Hugie. He is grandfather to 54 grandchildren and great-grandfather to 106 great-grand children.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 21 at 12:00 noon in the Hyrum 5th ward building, 111 North 400 West in Hyrum. A viewing will be held prior to this from 10:00 to 11 :30. Also, a viewing will be at the Allen-Hall Mortuary 34 East Center Street in Logan, Wednesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Interment will be in the Hyrum Cemetery.
