August 23, 1949 — September 14, 2024

Logan

Charlene Porter Johnson, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 14, 2024, at the age of 75. Born on August 23, 1949, in Montpelier, Idaho, to Russell and Violet Porter, Charlene was the second oldest of nine children.

Charlene graduated from Logan High School in 1967 and went on to attend the LDS Business College in Salt Lake City, where she earned a certificate in Dental Assisting in March of 1968. Her passion for this field was evident in her work as a dental assistant and later on as an instructor. While attending college, Charlene met Darrell Johnson. After dating for almost a year they were sealed for time and eternity in the Logan Temple on May 10, 1968.

Charlene and Darrell were blessed with four children: Darren, Amy, Jana, and Todd. Charlene found immense joy in her role as a mother, providing a nurturing and loving environment for her family. Her creativity was evident in her hobbies, including sewing, crafting, and baking. A dedicated member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Charlene served faithfully in numerous capacities throughout her life. Her love for the Gospel and unwavering testimony of the Savior were central to her faith. Passionate about genealogy, she would spend countless hours researching ancestors and completed several generations of pedigree charts on both her and her husband’s side of the family.

Despite being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) as a young adult, Charlene's spirit remained unbreakable. Her resilience and determination were inspiring. As she lived her life with joy, it spoke volumes about her resolve to live a vibrant and active life, despite her health challenges. One of her favorite church callings with her husband was Ward and Stake Dance Directors where they performed at various Dance Festivals. In 1990, they joined a square dancing group which performed all over Logan. Charlene and Darrell also enjoyed spending quality time with friends. Many fun memories were made from California road trips to camping in the Uintas.

In her later years, as MS increasingly affected her physical abilities, Charlene maintained a positive outlook, never complaining about circumstances beyond her control. Even when confined to bed, she found solace in journaling, drawing, word searches, and most especially, cherished visits from family and friends.

Charlene's life was a testament to the strength of family, faith, and perseverance. She will be fondly remembered for her valiant strength and unwavering love. Charlene is survived by her devoted husband, Darrell Johnson; children: Darren (Jeanette) Johnson, Amy (Darin) Carlson, Jana (Luke) Adams, and Todd (Kassi) Johnson; siblings Corinne, Roger (Roseanne), Nina (Kent), Shannon (Jerry), Dini (Henry), Randy (Susan), Tami (Guy), Ron (Luwana); thirteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

A viewing will be held on Friday, September 20, at the Willow Valley Ward LDS building at 825 N 200 W in Logan from 6-8 p.m. The funeral will be held at the same location on Saturday, September 21, at 11 a.m. with an additional viewing prior to the service from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Interment will be at the Logan Cemetery. The family extends their gratitude for the love and support they have received during this time.
