Charles J. Shelton
PARADISE, UTAH: Charles “Charlie” Shelton, 85, died on October 6, 2010 at his home in Paradise, Utah. Charlie was born in Charleston, Utah on December 26, 1924 to Charles Albert and Maud Ella Shelton. He graduated from Wasatch High School in 1943. That same year he joined the Air Force. He spent nineteen months in India, Burma, and China. He drove a twelve ton motor grader on the Burma road for over a thousand miles to Kumming, China, all the while detouring around blown up bridges, and being shot at by the enemy. When he returned home, he married Connie Giles Shelton in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. They were happily married for over 63 years. They had two sons Kenneth M. Shelton (deceased) and Lynn C. Shelton. They raised the boys in Wendover, Utah and Logan.
Charlie bought several hundred acres of property in Paradise and developed the water and electric service to the area, which now benefits many families and bears the nickname Charlieville. An early pioneer ancestor was instrumental in the settlement of Charleston, Utah, which also bears his name.
Charlie worked for Bullens and LeGrand Johnson for many years and also served as the Cache County Commissioner for 4 years. He served in many callings in the LDS church and loved being a primary teacher. He is survived by his wife Connie, and his son Lynn, as well as nine grandchildren and ten great grand children. He will be remembered for his generosity and willingness to help others. He will be greatly missed by all.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, October 11, 2010 at 11:00 am in the Paradise 3rd Ward Chapel (old church). There will be a viewing Sunday evening from 6-8 pm at the Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 E. Center, Logan and at the church on Monday from 9:30 - 10:30 am. Interment will be in the Paradise Cemetery. An online guest book is located at
