Charlotte Thain Dopp

Charlotte Thain Dopp, age 98, of Logan, Utah, passed away July 14, 2016 in the Rocky Mountain Care Logan. She was planning on mowing the lawn, but decided the grass was greener on the other side!

She was born on March 15, 1918, in Benson, Utah, to Emma “Auntie” Beutler and Marvin Paull Thain. Charlotte was welcomed by an older brother, Paull, followed by a younger brother, John, and sister, Emma.

Charlotte was raised on a beautiful Cache Valley farm where she and her brothers learned a strong work ethic. By age ten she was driving, changing tires, and was “Grandma Thain’s” personal driver to Relief Society Meetings in Amalga. She wasn’t only a tomboy. Charlotte also loved to dance throughout her life.
The North Cache High School class of 1935 included Charlotte Thain. In the following years, while working at the Bluebird Restaurant, she met her greatest love, Nate. Together they began life together on June 6, 1939, being sealed for time and all eternity in the Logan Temple.

Charlotte joined Nate through his early military training in Missouri, Texas and Georgia, only separating when he was deployed overseas in World War II. Following the war, Charlotte and Nate settled in Logan and welcomed Nathan “Skip” to their family. He was the first of five children they eventually adopted. Kim, Sherry Lyn, Debbie, and Clint completed their family.
Charlotte loved children, and she became a surrogate mother by providing daycare for dozens of children, many of whom remember her and still visited throughout her life.
In the early 1960's, Charlotte and Nate learned to square dance, and it became their favorite hobby. In addition to keeping them young, they forged the best friendships of their lives and traveled the country.
Charlotte was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and loved the Logan Second and Third Wards. She served in many callings throughout her life.
Charlotte’s cooking was legendary and family visits revolved around her warm kitchen. Her chicken noodle soup, hot rolls, pies, and Christmas star cookies were out of this world!

Charlotte is survived by her children: Skip (Sandra), Richmond, Utah, Kim (Colleen), Murray, Utah, and Debbie Black, Logan, Utah; grandchildren, Craig Dopp, Lori Albert, Susan Dopp, Jessie Barbour, Kellen Dopp, Alisha Spence, Brian Black, Diane Roundy and Brenda Valdez. Charlotte has 11 great grandchildren. Charlotte was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Clint Dopp, a daughter, Sherry Johnson, daughter-in-law, Debbie Darger Dopp and her siblings, John Thain (Mildred), Paull Thain (Thail), and sister Emma Thain.

The family would like to thank the staff at Rocky Mountain Care for the loving help they provided so tenderly. Charlotte was blessed to have a wonderful extended family, friends, and neighbors who visited and made her life rich. We extend our love and thanks to the Logan Second Ward Bishopric, ward members, and Relief Society for their compassionate service.

A funeral celebration will be held on Tuesday, July 19, at noon at the Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center Street, Logan, Utah. Family and friends are invited to a visitation that morning beginning at 10:30 to 11:30. Services will be conducted by Brother Kelby Johnson, counselor in the Logan Second Ward Bishopric.
