Chester F. Redd (84) a kind, loving, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend, passed away peacefully on October 11, 2015 in North Logan. He was born February 7, 1931 in Moab, Utah, a son of Ben F. and Theressa Allan Redd. He met his sweetheart, Joyce Campbell, while attending Utah State University. They were married in the Logan LDS Temple on August 11, 1955. They just celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.
Chester grew up on a farm and graduated from San Juan High School in 1949. He was drafted and served in the army in Korea in the early fifties. He then went on to graduate from Utah State University and receive his degree in electrical engineering.
He started his career by designing missile guidance systems for the defense industry. He then designed, built, and maintained the first cable TV system in Cache Valley. He retired in 1999.
Chester was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served as a stake missionary, ward clerk, executive secretary, a member of the bishopric, a merit badge counselor, and a faithful home teacher.
Chester was an avid stamp and coin collector, photographer, and he loved birds and airplanes. He was an awesome cook, master brewer (root beer), and honey candy maker. He was a lifelong St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan and in his later years became very skilled with the computer.
He is survived by his loving wife, Joyce; his siblings Ada, Tracy, Cecilia, and Asenath; his children Jolene (Darrell) Eddington of Perry, Pam (Jerry) Hamza of Grand Lake Stream, Maine, Brent (Alice) Redd of North Logan and Jeff (Kim) Redd of Ogden. He is also survived by his grandchildren Ryan, Cory, Michelle, Heidi, Nicolas, Alexander, Brandon, Nicole, Campbell and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Craig and Peter, granddaughter Ashley Hamza and great-granddaughter Cambry Eddington.
The funeral service for Chester will be held Friday, October 16, at 12:00 p.m. in the North Logan Thirteenth Ward Chapel, 1850 North 400 East, North Logan. A viewing will be held prior to the funeral from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the church and also on Thursday, October 15, at Allen Mortuary, 420 East 1800 North, North Logan, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
Interment will be in the North Logan Memorial Park & Cemetery.
