Christian Andrew Benson, age 79, passed away March 21, 2018 surrounded by his family. He was born January 28, 1939 to Oscar Christopher Benson and Rebecca Nelson Benson in Murray, Utah.
Christian grew up in Draper, Utah where he developed a close circle of friends. Their friendship has remained strong throughout the years, meeting often for lunch and to reminisce. He graduated from Jordan High in 1957. He then enlisted in the Armed Forces of the United States from 1957 to 1964. He served for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the Western States Mission from 1959 to 1961. He attended BYU and USU before graduating from the University of Utah with a degree in Political Science.
Christian met his sweet wife, Alice Wilson, on a blind date. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple September 9, 1964. They lived in Draper where they raised their six children. He worked for the Utah Department of Corrections holding many positions until retiring in 1998. Christian and Alice moved to Cache Valley, Utah afterwards, where they enjoyed their retirement on "the 30 acres".
Christian loved to spend many hours metal detecting, entertaining with his stories anyone who would listen, making friends with all types of animals, traveling with his wife, and spending time with family. He had special nicknames for his wife, his children, grandchildren, and pets.
The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses of McKay Dee Hospital for their sweet, respectful manner in caring for our husband, father, and grandfather.
Christian is survived by his wife of 53 years, Alice; sons, Andrew (Wendy), Jonathan (Jennifer), and Thomas; daughters, Suzanne (James) Young, Jennifer (John) Garrard, and Carrie (Frank) Yengich; 20 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held Friday, March 30, 2018 at 1:00 pm in the Wellsville Stake Center, 30 South Center Street, with a viewing prior from 11:00 - 12:30 pm. Interment will be at the Logan City Cemetery.
