Christoph Carl Oppermann passed away at his home the morning of September 18, 2008. He was born May 9, 1996 in Konstanz, Germany to Dirk and Laura Oppermann. Although Chris had many challenges in his short life, he truly enjoyed the sweet tender experiences he had with his friends and family. He loved people and would reach out to them with unconditional love. He enjoyed being outside in the shade in his backyard, getting a back scratch from a willing hand, having a picnic with his siblings, the school day with his peers. He loved music especially someone tenderly singing to him. Even when suffering with pain, he tried to smile and show that he appreciated our efforts to comfort him.
He was loved wherever he went. He received personal and loving attention from his interveners, teachers, aids, bus drivers, and classmates. They all loved to be with him and feel of his spirit. His ward family couldn’t have loved, accepted, and supported him more. His life was enhanced by the generous care given by medical specialists, coordinators, CNAs, nurses, doctors, therapists and other staff. Respite workers felt his loving impact as they cared for him. The community showed their love by rallying to provide him a wheelchair van. He enjoyed activities sponsored by Common Ground, especially the two bike trips with his mom to Oregon and Idaho. He shared a special bond with his dad who did everything in his power to make him feel safe and comfortable. His sisters and brother particularly will miss opening the doors for him, giving him hugs and kisses and sharing their lives. We have been blessed to have shared 12 years with this beautiful boy. All were touched by his life.
He is survived by his parents, Dirk and Laura Karren Oppermann, his sisters, Sophie and Heidi, brother, Andrew, his grandparents, Steven and Johnnie Karren of Logan, and Klaus and Ursula Oppermann of Hockenheim, Germany, two great grandmothers in Germany. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, and cousins. He will be greatly missed.
