Clair Howell Lundberg

June 26, 1922 — October 28, 2008

Clair Howell Lundberg, 86, died October 28, 2008 of causes incident to age. He was born June 26, 1922 in Woodruff, Idaho to Benjamin and Ruby Howell Lundberg. Clair graduated from Malad High School. He then attended Utah State University majoring in Business Administration. He received a call to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Hawaiian Islands Japanese Mission and was scheduled to depart on November 26th and arrive on December 3, 1941. However, for reasons unknown at the time, his departure was delayed. After the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941 the reason became evident. A new call was issued and he served an honorable mission in the North Central States. After his mission he was called to serve in the Army Air Corp and spent time in Italy and North Africa. Four days after returning home he met Melba Hales at a VJ Day Celebration. They were married on September 11, 1946 in the Salt Lake Temple by President Joseph Fielding Smith. His first occupation was in the automobile sales business at Lundberg Motor. He later accepted a position as Vice-President and General Manager of Miller Brothers Co, Inc. where he worked for 21 years.
He served diligently in many LDS Church callings, including Bishop, High Council, Stake President, Temple Worker and Patriarch.
Clair was very active in civic and community affairs, serving three terms on the Hyrum City Council. Clair enjoyed singing and sang together with Melba as well as in a Barbershop Quartet. He also loved going to his summer home in Blacksmith Fork Canyon.
Clair is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Melba, brother Leon and sisters Pearl Monson, Ione Hess and Velda Wood. He is survived by his five sons, Brent (Tiffany) Sandy, Brian (Marilyn) Logan, Jay (Linda) Glendale, AZ, Gary (Lori) Logan, and Daryl (Melinda) River Heights, twenty-three grandchildren and twenty-two great grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held at noon on Monday, November 3, 2008 at the Hyrum 5th/10th ward chapel, 125 North 400 West.. Friends and family may call at the Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 E. Center Street, Logan from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, November 2nd and from 10:30-11:30 a.m. at the church on Monday. Burial will be in the Logan Cemetery.
