Clara Mae Mcbride

May 10, 1911 — October 7, 2007

LOGAN, UTAH – Clara Mae Wilson Israelsen McBride, 96 of Nibley, Utah passed away on Sunday, October 7 at Sunshine Terrace.

Clara Mae Wilson Israelsen McBride was born May 10, 1911 to Joseph and Laura Christiansen Wilson of Hyrum, Utah. She was welcomed by 1 Sister, (Hazel,) and 2 brothers, (Calvin), and Seth). When she was 2 years old, a sister Rhoda was born. Shortly after Rhoda was born their Mother died, and their Father was left with five young children to care for. The oldest one being only 11 years old. He felt like he could keep the 3 oldest children with him but couldn't take care of a new baby and a toddler only two years old. Two of his cousins came forward and offered their help. One would take the baby into their home and the other would take the toddler into their home until such time as their father could take them back again.
John A. and Jennie Dunn Israelsen took Mae into their home and Mae was blessed with two families. She always stayed close to both of them. She had two sisters and two brothers in one family and one brother (Howard) in the other.
Mae grew up in Hyrum, attended Lincoln School, and graduated from South Cache High School. After graduation she worked at the Hyrum Post Office until her marriage. She married James L. McBride also of Hyrum, on April 5, 1933 in the Salt Lake Temple. They lived in the McBride home and ran the farm with Jim's brother Roy until 1935 when they purchased their own farm on Hollow Road in Nibley and farmed there until the beginning of World War II. They then moved to Ogden to get involved in the war effort. Mae worked at Second Street as a clerk and Jim worked there in construction as a brick layer. At the end of the war they sold their farm and purchased another home in Nibley. Jim continued working in construction and Mae worked at the County Assessor's Office. They were always involved in the activities of the community and LDS Church.
Mae was an excellent cook and she loved to tryout new Gourmet recipes on Jim. He was a good taster and always complimentary. Many family members and friends were recipients of her good cooking. Every December Mae and her sister Hazel would get together and make their Christmas candy and dip chocolates for friends and family. A Christmas tradition many neighbors looked forward to.
Mae has always been a faithful member of the LDS Church and worked in all of the auxiliary organizations.
Everyone admired her pretty handwriting and wanted her to be the scribe whenever one was needed.
She belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary in Nibley, Utah. She has been active in the Sunflower Camp of the Daughter's of Utah Pioneers. She volunteered at the Logan Hospital as a Pink Lady for many years.
Mae and Jim served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ OF Latter-Day Saints in 1977-78 in Billings Montana. They served as temple officiators in the Logan Temple for over 30 years. Mae continued to serve after Jim's death.
They were never blessed with children of their own, but were loved by many children and called "Uncle Jim and Aunt Mae".

She is survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews.
