Cleo Mainwaring Bankhead

August 5, 1916 — August 7, 2009

Mother, grandmother, teacher...noble roles filled admirably by Cleo Mainwaring Bankhead. Cleo was born August 5, 1916 in Logan, Utah to William Orson and Helen Low Mainwaring. She attended school in Logan and graduated from the Utah Agricultural College with a teaching degree. She taught school in Cache County School District and while teaching in Paradise met John William (Jack) Bankhead. They were married on February 2, 1945 in Fayetteville, South Carolina while Jack was on leave from the army. The marriage was later solomized in the Salt Lake Temple. After Jack was released from the army they made their home in Paradise and became the parents of two children. Family and friends were always welcome in Cleo and Jack’s home. A hot meal and a clean comfortable bed were always offered and frequently enjoyed. Cleo’s life was clearly focused on two goals, making a beautiful home for her family and teaching the children of Cache County, both she achieved with high marks.

Cleo is survived by her two children, Patricia Ann Burton, John William Bankhead, Jr. (Skarlet), and six grandchildren, Tara Marie Bankhead, Lucus William Bankhead (Katelyn), Courtnee Nicole Maughan (Jay Dee), Nikeeta Leigh Bankhead, Greyson Keane Bankhead, Britta Shiquille Bankhead. She was proceeded in death by her husband Jack; four sisters, Parthenia Maughan, Cathryn Mainwaring, Ruth Mainwaring and Mary Mainwaring and her son-in-law, Marvin Lynn Burton.

Our family would like to express deep gratitude to the staff at the Cache Valley Assisted Living Center for the kind and gentle care they have given to mother for the past six years and to the Alpine Hospice staff who gave her compassionate support in her final days.

Friends and family are invited to celebrate her life at a viewing to be held at Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center Street, Logan, Utah from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, August 11, 2009 and from 9:30 until 10:30 AM on Wednesday, August 12, 2009. Funeral services will be at the Allen- Hall Mortuary at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, August 12. Interment will be in the Providence City Cemetery.
