Clyde W Chatterton

December 4, 1936 — July 25, 2024

Logan

It is with tender hearts that we share the passing of a great man, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather Clyde W Chatterton (87). Clyde peacefully and unexpectedly departed this life on Thursday July 25, 2024, in Logan, Utah with his loving wife Sharlene by his side.

He was born at home on December 4, 1936 in Preston, Idaho to Elnora Wheeler & LaVon Buckley Chatterton.

Clyde and Sharlene met on a blind date in June, 1957. They were married, March 21, 1958 and were sealed to each other and their children in the Logan LDS Temple on June 25, 1976.

Clyde's journey through life was marked by his unwavering love for those closest to him, his remarkable sense of humor, his quiet demeanor and his extraordinary talent for working with his hands. He was a man of many skills and was known by his family and all who knew him as a “jack of all trades”. His career as an entrepreneur provided a lifetime of working side by side with his wife in many local businesses. Together they owned The House of Carpets, The Drape & Fire Shop, Taylor Rental Center and most recently, five locations of the Honor Copy Centers throughout northern Utah. He believed that there are honest people everywhere and that if you give them an opportunity to be honest, they will.

Clyde never encountered a jigsaw puzzle he couldn't master and enjoyed when others would gather around the table with him to finish the masterpiece, often leaving the last piece for them. From a young age he loved model train sets, and in later years shared that love with his own children and grandchildren. We will be hard pressed to see a model train set without being reminded of him. Dinners were not considered fully complete until it ended with a thick helping of peanut butter on bread and a glass of milk.

Clyde’s legacy of love, kindness, wisdom and dedication will live on and continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to be a part of his life. He will be deeply missed and cherished forever in the hearts of those who knew him.

Clyde is survived by his wife of over 66 years, Sharlene, daughter Ellen (Scott) Taylor, St George, UT, sons Larry (Diane) Chatterton, Syracuse, UT, Joseph (Rylee) Chatterton, SLC, UT, sister, Carla (Paul) Schulz, Paradise, UT. Also holding dear memories of Clyde are his 13 Grandchildren and 17 Great Grandchildren and brothers and sisters in law. He is preceded in death by his daughter Genet (Sam) Lindley, grandchild Jacob Taylor, his older brother Lavon Jr, sister and brother in law Melba & Dave Craft, and parents LaVon & Elnora Chatterton.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude for all those who have reached out with love and support.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, Aug 2, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at the Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 E Center Street, Logan, UT. Viewings will be held Thursday from 6-8 p.m. and Friday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at Allen-Hall Mortuary. The burial will take place in the Franklin Idaho Cemetery.
