COLLEEN JENSEN ANHDER

Colleen J. Anhder, 86, passed away peacefully at her home in Providence, Utah, from lung cancer in the early morning of June 4, 2013. Colleen was born in Providence, July 9, 1926, daughter of Jesse N. and Lola Checketts Jensen. She attended Providence Elementary, South Cache High School and Utah State University. She married C. LaVarr Anhder in the Logan LDS Temple December 3, 1946.

She was active in the LDS Church and enjoyed serving in a variety of positions over the years.

She worked for First Security Bank for 45 years, 20 of which were as vice-president and manager of the Hyrum Office. She was the first female branch manager in the First Security organization.

An advocate of women's advancement in business, she was well-known in business, civic and banking circles. Recognizing her skills and leadership, she was awarded Women Advocate of the Year and the Cache Valley Women over 65 Achievement Award from USU. Colleen was among the first female members of the Board of Directors of the Cache Chamber of Commerce.

Colleen loved people and looked for opportunities to go to lunch and spend time with friends. She was an active member of DUP, Hyrum Literary Club, the “Do Nothing Club,” PTA, and the list goes on, belonging to at least 12 groups in her early “retirement” years.

A woman of many interests, she loved travel, USU basketball, Jazz basketball, Providence baseball, innumerable grandchildren sports/activities, crossword puzzles, reading, playing cards and Wendover trips with friends. But her heart and life were centered on her family. She was the consummate family spectator, fan, and supporter – both immediate and extended.

She is survived by her children, Larry (Margo) of Nibley, Lynn (Paulette) of Hyrum, Cristene (David) Winn of South Jordan, and Caren of West New York, New Jersey; two brothers, Dennis (Lorna) Jensen and Boyd (Carolyn, deceased) Jensen; 13 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two sisters, three brothers, and two grandchildren.

The family appreciates Colleen's many friends and their kindnesses. They would like to especially recognize A.J. Christensen for being such a good friend and companion to Colleen.

Funeral services will be held at noon, Saturday, June 8, 2013 at Providence 4th Ward, 155 North 100 East, Providence, Utah. A viewing will be held Friday, June 7, 2013, at Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center Street, Logan, Utah from 6-8 pm and at the church Saturday morning from 10:30-11:30. Burial will be in the Hyrum City cemetery.
