A. Cordell Perkes
North Logan - A. Cordell Perkes, 72, passed away Thursday, December 26, 2013, in North Logan, Utah from complications of Dementia. He was born July 12, 1941 in Logan, Utah, to Orson and Naoma Webb Perkes. He married Annette Beutler November 12, 1965, in the Logan LDS Temple. They are the parents of three sons and one daughter.
As a child growing up in Wellsville, Cordell liked playing ball and going to the movies. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting with his older brother, Dee; his sister, Pauline, helped take good care of him when he was young. He learned early that he enjoyed his play more when he had finished his chores - a lifelong motto.
Cordell graduated from South Cache High School in 1959 after which he began his studies at Utah State University. He served an LDS mission to southern Germany. He earned a science teaching degree from USU in 1966. While teaching at various schools he worked on a Master's degree from USU. He received a PhD in Science Education from Ohio State University in 1973. After teaching for five years at George Mason University, he secured a position at Weber State University, retiring in 2003. While at WSU he served as the Teacher Education department chair two times and coordinated the department's accreditation. Cordell was an excellent teacher and inspired his students to not just teach the facts but to teach children how to think. He served in various church leadership callings, though his favorite callings involved teaching.
Cordell is survived by his wife, Annette; children, Ronald (Christie) of Gilbert, AZ, David of Salt Lake City, Edward (Autumn) of North Logan, and Mary Anne (Micah) of North Logan; sister Pauline Biggs of Bountiful; sister-in-law Gae Perkes of Afton, WY; 12 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, and sister-in-law Anna Marie Perkes.
