Craig Poppleton

October 13, 1946 — October 2, 2022

On Sunday, October 2, 2022, Craig passed away peacefully surrounded by family. He was 75 years old.

Craig was born in Logan, Utah to Joseph Allan Squires and Libbie Lauritzen Poppleton on October 13, 1946. He attended Lincoln Elementary, South Cache Junior High, and graduated from South Cache High in 1964. He went on to become an Aggie and graduated from Utah State University soon after with a bachelor's degree in Fine Arts.

Craig saw the beauty of God's creations all around him and had a natural gift to put brush to canvas. He was an artist in all aspects. His creative mind was always creating treasures for those he loved including his signature hand sketched birthday cards with Bullwinkle the moose, drawings for flags and signs to beautify the city, illustrations published for the Church and his beautiful paintings. Each oil painting tells a story. His stories will forever be remembered and cherished.

Growing up on a farm, he loved the land, the animals, and the challenges that came with farm life. Those challenges are what developed his value of hard work and grit.

He served in the army and received an honorable discharge. Later, he enjoyed serving with the American Legion honoring veterans around the valley.

He married his eternal companion Mary Ann Hansen on August 27, 1966, and together they created his most valued treasures of all, a family. Together they have six children: David, Chris, Ryan, Chad, Mackenzie, Ashleigh. His family was where he dedicated his time and taught values and principles that leave a legacy. That legacy includes 15 grandchildren. Craig's grandkids brought him the most joy in life! He spent countless hours with them playing, teaching them how to work, and building character by his endless teasing and lecturing.

Craig loved his Savior. He was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He spent his life serving and loving those around him, especially the members of the Hyrum 1st ward.

Craig is survived by his children: Chris (Atlanta, GA), Ryan & Margaret (Hyrum, UT), Chad & Amy (Hyrum, UT), Mackenzie & Chris Slaubaugh (Queens Creek, AZ), Ashleigh & Daniel Porter (Queen Creek, AZ); 15 grandchildren; Siblings: Marie Poppleton (Chubbuck, ID), Susan & Dave Smith (Fredericksburg, VA), Kent & Jeanie (Tremonton, UT)
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, son David, and brother Steven (Chubbuck, ID).
