Dallas David Low

Dallas David Low, 93 passed away on February 5, 2007 in Logan, Utah.

Dallas was born Oct 26, 1913 to William Budge and Emma Hansen Low. He grew up in Providence, Utah. His father died when he was only 16 years old. The responsibility to run the family farm, and support the family fell on Dallas’ shoulders.

He graduated from South Cache High School in 1935. He also graduated from Utah State University in 1940 with a major in Agronomy and Soils and a minor in Building Construction.

Dallas later went to work for the Morris Knudsen Construction Company in the Pacific Islands. He worked for the Department of the Interior in the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation. He participated in the rebuilding of airfields destroyed at Pearl Harbor.

Dallas married Mary Lou Haupua Kunani in 1947 in the Hawaiin Temple in Laie. They traveled throughout the Pacific supervising the construction of stake centers and chapels in Hawaii, Fiji, California and Somoa, among other places. He had a great love for the people of the Islands.

Dallas was ordained a Seventy by Matthew Cowley and enjoyed his work as a missionary in Honolulu. They then moved to Pearl City where he served as the Branch President. Dallas served on the high council, High Priest Group leader and as a temple worker for many many years. He loved his Temple work. He and Mary visited many temples.

Dallas was partner in the Stokes and Low Contracting Company. After hearing President David O. McKay speak about building BYU Hawaii and the Polynesian Center, Dallas donated his services for two years to help build the College and the Polynesian Cultural Center.

In 1979 while working in Fiji, his wife, Mary was killed in an automobile accident.

Later in life Dallas enjoyed the winters in Hawaii and the summers in Utah growing his wonderful vegetables in his garden. He was a member of the Sons of the Utah Pioneers and was very proud of his rich pioneer heritage.

Dallas celebrated his 90th birthday at the party for the 40th anniversary of the Polynesian Cultural Center. He said it was the best birthday he ever had.

He is survived by Margene Low, Mesa, Arizona; Charlotte (David) Meyers, Hawaii, brother and sister-in-laws. Nieces and nephews - Linda (Glenn) Keller, Providence, Utah (currently serving LDS mission in Ohio); Robert (Frances) Wursten, Sandy, Utah; Richard (Linda) Wursten, Wellsville, Utah; Janice (Dale) Byington, Providence, Utah; Sandy (Norm) Hansen, Nibley, Utah; Kristine (Brent) Gardner, Mesa; Kathy Fuhriman, Tremonton, Utah; Bill (Patty) Low, Mesa; Norman (Shirley) Tong, Orem, Utah; Mary Charlotte (Jay) Larson, Elko, Nevada; Vernon (Blossom) Tong, Hawaii; Samuel (Kristy) Tong, Hawaii;

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon Saturday, February 10, 2007, in the Providence 2nd Ward chapel, 305 S. Main, Providence. Friends may call from 10:00 to 11:45 a.m. prior to the funeral.
