Dallas Thomas Goodey, 91, returned home to his Heavenly Father on February 26,2008. He was born November 15, 1916 in Clarkston, Utah, the third child of Thomas Arthur Goodey and Martha Jane Barson Goodey.
He was married and sealed for time and all eternity to his childhood sweetheart, Sybil Thompson, on September 20, 1939 in the Logan Temple and have brought seven children to their union. They have lived in Clarkston all of their lives.
He attended schools in Clarkston and Midvale and graduated from North Cache High School where he played football and the trumpet in the band. He also attended Utah State Agricultural College for three and three-fourths years where he majored in Forestry.
He has been an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and has held many church positions in his ward and stake. He has been a Scout Master, Councilor and President of YMMIA, Councilor in the Elders Quorum Presidency; Second Councilor in Bishopric, Superintendent of Sunday School, Stake YM President.
He has been a farmer all of his life and loved working his land and was also employed as a School Bus driver for Cache County School District from December 1949 to May 1987 and has traveled many miles taking students to many places. He has made the trip to Macon, Georgia seven times for new busses - once by airplane and train and five times by Greyhound Bus, (he really loves to travel by bus).
He served on the Clarkston Town Council for eight years and as Mayor for eight years.
He received many civic and employment awards for his dedicated service, recently receiving the Humanitarian Award for his service in the community.
Dad loved life, loved to travel, spend time with family, and visiting with friends especially under his big pine trees. He had a special sense of humor and a quick wit and always had a good story or joke to tell. He suffered a lot of pain but never complained and always made you feel
special..... He loved black licorice and always had a Weathers' in his pocket.
He is survived by his wife of 68 1/2 years, Sybil, and seven children: Karen (Larry) Kent, Grand Prairie, TX; MaryAnne (Robert) Gardner, Deweyville, UT, Rhonda Goodey (deceased); Myrna (Michael) DeGriselles, Tracy, CA; Merle (Alan) Cornish, Weatherford, TX; Jane (Kim) Sparks, Clarkston, UT; Garth Dallas (Heidi) Goodey, Carlsbad, NM; eighteen grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, one great great grandchild; a sister Tellma Thompson (deceased), brothers: Barson A. Goodey (deceased); Oris D. Goodey, Richland, WA and Darwin J. Goodey, Ellensburg, WA.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, March 1, 2008 at 12:00 (noon) at the Clarkston Ward Chapel, 25 E. 100 South. A viewing will be held at the Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center Street, Logan, Utah on Friday, February 29, 2008 from 6-8 p.m. and at the church in Clarkston on Saturday, March 1, from 10:30-11:30 a.m. prior to services. Interment will be in the Clarkston Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests that donations be made to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Missionary Fund.
