DARIUS W. CARTER
Darius Wendell Carter, born April 30, 1939, passed away May 20, 2012, by natural causes related to a recent stroke.
He was born in Park Valley, Utah to Gordon Ray and Mary Eldora Hirschi Carter. He was one of 7 children. He grew up ranching in Park Valley; then attended and graduated from Logan High School.
Darius served as Cache County Sheriff from 1970 to 1978. He served as a deputy for several years prior to being elected Sheriff. He also worked as a security officer at Utah State University and for the Logan City Police Department. He was one of the first peace officers from Cache County to attend and graduate from the FBI National Academy in Washington, D.C.
Darius had a life-long love of the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He had an outgoing, optimistic and enthusiastic personality with a rather unique brand of humor. He will be remembered and missed by many friends and relatives.
Darius was preceded in death by his wife, Cathryn Erickson; a brother, B. Kent Carter; a sister, Sharon Carter Stucki; and his parents. He is survived by his children and stepchildren: Wendy Carter Steffenhagen, Sherman Carter, Travis Carter, Chet Carter, Scott Leishman, and Kelly Leishman, as well as 18 grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers; Duane G. Carter and David L. Carter, and two sisters; Jeanne Fidler and Gayla Patterson.
A very special thanks goes to the staff at Sunshine Terrace for the friendly way they cared for Darius while he was there.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon on Friday, May 25, 2012, at the Logan River 5th Ward, 993 W 1000 S, Logan, Utah. Friends may call on Thursday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 E Center, Logan, and at the ward on Friday morning from 10:30 to 11:30 am.
