DARLENE BUTTARS BRAEGGER (Feb 11, 1928 - Oct 15, 2012)

Darlene Buttars Braegger passed away at her home in Providence, Utah on October 15, 2012 at the age of 84 due to complications of heart disease.

Born on February 11, 1928 at home in Clarkston, Utah, she was the eldest of the four daughters born to Arvle Alexander and Sylvia Ermatrude Barson Buttars. Her early life was spent moving from farm to farm with her father’s share cropping efforts and the value of hard work was learned early, practiced throughout her life, and instilled in her children. Her graduation from North Cache High School as an honor student commenced a life-long pursuit of learning.

On July 9, 1948 she married Kenneth Jay Braegger in the Logan Temple. They made their home in Providence where they raised six boys and two girls.

Darlene developed and shared many talents during her lifetime: reading and a love of books, teaching, family history, quilting, sewing, floral arranging, and a love of nature. She made (and taught others to make) beautiful porcelain dolls adorned exquisitely in hand-sewn outfits. She used these talents to bring joy into the lives of others.

Included in the great legacy bequeathed to her posterity will be the memory and example of the loving relationship she enjoyed with her eternal companion of over 64 years and the unity and teamwork that was evident in everything they did. Together they taught correct principles to their children, showed forth unconditional love, and then allowed freedom of choice. She was especially proud that her six sons achieved the rank of Eagle Scout.

She willingly accepted every call to serve including multiple LDS missions and ten years of service in the Logan Temple with her devoted husband. Together they embarked on the path of happiness and set a pattern worthy of emulation. She will be remembered for her dedication to family, her spiritual strength, and her service and good works. Her children have treasured memories of family time together including working, camping, jeeping, and gardening.

Darlene is survived by her husband Ken, Providence, Utah; children: Lana (Steve) Barlow, Bountiful, Utah; Lyle (Sue), Malad, Idaho; Kim (Rozanne), Richmond, Utah; Thayne (Colleen), Hyde Park, Utah; Jan (Keith) Rasmussen, Edmond, Oklahoma; Jeff (Carrie), South Jordan, Utah; Roy (Janice), Herriman, Utah; Van (Tamera), Preston, Idaho; 34 grandchildren; 66 great-grandchildren. Sisters: Beverly Mudd, South Jordan, Utah and Patricia Godfrey, Salt Lake City, Utah. Preceded in death by a sister, Colleen Harvey.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 20, 2012 at 11 a.m. at the LDS meetinghouse at 309 South Main Street, Providence, Utah. Friends may call Friday from 6-8 p.m. at the Allen-Hall Mortuary at 34 East Center Street in Logan, Utah and Saturday from 9-10:30 a.m. at the church prior to services. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Todd Brown, Rocky Mountain Home Care and Hospice (especially her caring nurse, Cherie Pugsley), ward members, neighbors, and friends for their love and support during her long illness. Memories and condolences may be shared online at www.allenmortuaries.net .
