Darold Johnson
Darold Johnson, 93, passed away peacefully at home, at sunrise, asleep and surrounded by family on Friday, July 20, 2012. Dad was born at home in Logan, Utah to Grace Peterson and Gustaf Johnson and raised in Preston, Idaho. He served an LDS mission to Stockholm, Sweden and later served in the U.S. Navy during WWII.
Darold graduated from Utah State Agricultural College where he met his eternal companion and sweetheart, Marna Marie Peterson. They were married in the Logan Temple on May 17, 1944. After completing his MS Bacteriology Degree, the family moved East to accept a position as research scientist with Kraft Cheese, Glenview, Illinois. There, they raised their family, built up the kingdom and served the Lord. They helped to "settle" the first Chicago Stake and establish and build the Illinois, Chicago Temple. Dad served continuously as Bishop, Stake President, Regional Representative, and Patriarch.
Upon retirement, he and Marna returned to their beloved Utah; coming home to be with children and cherished grandchildren. Dad, with fortitude, patiently and gently cared for Marna, who suffered from Parkinson's during the last 15 years of her life. Dad will always remain an example of enduring to the end; patience, strength and persistence. His favorite mottos were "Charity never faileth," and "Never give up".
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Irene, wife, Marna, and son, Craig. Darold is survived by his brother Carl (Alva) Johnson, sons Paul Darold (Jeri) Johnson, Anthon (Rosemarie) Johnson, daughter Marcia M.J. (Rex) Hendricks, daughter-in-love Kathleen S.J. (Bob) Eliason, 12 grandchildren (with spouses), 21 great-grandchildren plus 4 more on the way.
Funeral services will be held Monday, July 30th at 11:00 am at the Providence 4th Ward Chapel, 155 North 100 East, Providence. A viewing will be held Sunday, July 29th from 6-8 pm at Allen Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center, Logan and from 9:30-10:30 AM prior to services at the church.
