Darrell W Anderson

May 14, 1923 — June 29, 2013

LOGAN, UTAH: Darrell W. Anderson, age 90, of Logan, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 29, 2013, at Terrace Grove.
Dad was born at home on May 14, 1923 to Ivan H. and Nellie P. Anderson in Nibley, Utah. He was the oldest of three children. Dad grew up working the family farm with his father. He graduated from South Cache High School where he met Betty Selley from Wellsville, and they married on July 9, 1943 (They were just 10 days shy of celebrating their 70th wedding anniversary). Shortly after their marriage, Dad was drafted into World War II and was stationed at Government Island in Alameda, California where he trained to be a radar operator. He was promoted to Yeoman First Class and was an assignment officer. After being honorably discharged in 1946, Dad returned home with his wife to continue working on the family farm in Nibley where they resided for nearly 50 years.

In 1958, Dad started a construction business with his brother-in-law, and then in 1974 he established his own construction company with his sons, Darrell W. Anderson Construction, Inc. He was an example of hard work and diligence to his family. He may have retired, but he never stopped going in to the office and visiting the jobsites until his health declined. He delighted in working with his boys.

Dad was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in various church callings. He served his community as mayor of Nibley from 1970-1974. In 2009, he was Nibley’s citizen of the year. Dad was Director and President of the Logan Golf and Country Club in 1976 and 1978. He was the Director of the Nibley-Blacksmith Fork Irrigation Company and served on the Sunshine Terrace Building and Grounds Committee for many years. He enjoyed 30 years with his wife wintering in St. George, Utah and meeting many wonderful people that he added to his circle of dear friendships. Dad loved dancing, golfing, hunting with his sons and grandsons, and traveling.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 70 years, Betty S. Anderson of Logan, their children James B. and Linda J. Anderson of Nibley, Douglas B. and Linda O. Anderson of Nibley, daughter-in-law, Cozette P. Anderson of Centerville , 12 grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and 5 step great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, D. Larry Anderson, parents Ivan and Nellie Anderson, sisters Darla Smith and Lanice Selley.

A special thanks to Terrace Grove, Home Health Care, and Hospice for your loving kindness and consideration given to Dad.

The funeral will be Saturday, July 6 at 12:00 pm, at Allen Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center St. with Bishop Merrill Haderlie conducting. Interment will be in the Millville-Nibley Cemetery with military honors.

Friends may call from Friday, July 5, from 6:00 – 8:00 pm, Saturday, July 6, from 10:30 – 11:30 at the mortuary.
