Darrell McBride
Darrell B. McBride, of Hyrum, passed away peacefully on his 89th birthday - Sunday October 7, 2012. He was born in Hyrum, Utah on October 7, 1923, the son of Samuel McBride and Eliza Jane Hall McBride.
Darrell grew up in Hyrum, the second youngest of eight surviving children, the eldest being 13 years old when their mother passed away in childbirth. They became a very close-knit family. After graduating from South Cache High School, Darrell joined the U.S. Army and Air Corp during World War II, serving in the 89th Infantry Division 3rd Battalion Headquarters Company in Europe from 1943-1946.
Shortly after he returned from the war, he met Ardyth Nelson. They fell in love and
married a year later on May 29, 1947 in the Logan LDS temple. They celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary this year.
As a newlywed, Darrell completed an associate degree at the Utah State Agricultural
College. Following his graduation, he worked for Logan Refrigeration Company for
many years. Utah State University then recruited him to work in their Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Department, which he later managed for 26 years before his retirement in 1986.
Darrell and Ardyth have called Hyrum home for the past 63 years. It was here that they lovingly raised four sons and one daughter. They have also lovingly welcomed four daughters-in-law, ten grandchildren (and four spouses), and eight great-grandchildren into their family.
As a lifelong, faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Darrell willingly served in numerous callings, including 18 1/2 years as an officiator at the Logan LDS temple.
Darrell taught by example the virtues of honesty, integrity, generosity, and kindness. While Darrell lived these virtues quietly, they will leave a strong and lasting impact on his family, his friends, and all who had the opportunity to know him.
Darrell has always loved being in the outdoors -- hiking, camping, riding horses, caring for animals, farming, gardening, and generally enjoying the beauties of nature. His greatest love, however, he reserved for his family. He was totally devoted to his family and never happier than when spending time with them. His family deeply loved and admired him in return. We will all miss him greatly.
Darrell is survived by his loving wife, Ardyth; five children, Clair (Julie) McBride of Grantsville, Utah; Gary (Renee) McBride of Carlsbad, California; David (Marilee) McBride of Centerville, Utah; Debbie McBride of Logan, Utah; and Nathan (Patti) McBride of Stockton, California; ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; and one sister, Elva Hatch of Franklin, Idaho.
He was proceeded in death by his father and mother, Samuel and Eliza Jane; brothers
George, Austin, and Leo; and sisters Rhoda, Violet, Virgie, Modest, Gladys, and Rosella.
The family wishes to express sincere thanks to the doctors and nurses at McKay-Dee hospital stroke center, and the nurses and staff at Logan Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for their care and compassion.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday October 12 in the Hyrum 6th Ward
chapel, 595 South 200 East. A viewing will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday at Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 E. Center St., Logan, and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Friday, prior to the services at the Hyrum 6th Ward chapel. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.allenmortuaries.net
