David Louis Mumford

May 2, 1932 — April 10, 2017

David Louis Mumford, 84, passed away peacefully from cancer on Monday, April 10th in his home in North Logan, surrounded by his family.
David was born to Louis Mumford and Euleda Edmunds on May 2, 1932 in Salt Lake City. He was raised in Wales, Utah and graduated from Moroni High School. After receiving his associate degree from Snow College, he joined the U.S. Army and served in the Korean Ward for two years. Following his military service, he earned his bachelor’s degree in biology from Brigham Young University. On June 3, 1955, he married Joyce D. Mumford in the LDS Manti Temple. He then continued his education at the University of Minnesota, receiving his doctorate in plant pathology, after which he worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture, researching sugar beet diseases and cures. Upon retiring from the government, he purchased and operated Kitchen Kneads of Logan with his wife Joyce, until her passing. David and Joyce are the parents of six children: Mark D., Bart L. (Bethany), Bruce R. (Karen), Blair D. (JeriWyn), Anita Oldham (Troy), and Aleece Wade (Ken).
In December 1996 David married Maryetta Moon Sampson of North Logan and was lovingly accepted into her family of seven children: Stephen (Dianna), Michael (Marie), Mary Kay Carter (Scott), Diana Cannell (Brian), Justin (Mic), Curtis (Stephanie), and Travis (Tamara). Together they have 12 children, 46 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
David was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and an active member of the LDS Church, serving in many callings throughout his lifetime. He and Maryetta enjoyed their service together as ordinance workers in the Washington D.C. Temple from 2002-2003.
David loved sports and was very active his entire life. He played handball regularly for 51 years, and then moved onto pickleball the last few years. What David loved most was spending time with family. He enjoyed camping, playing games, visiting at family reunions, and providing counsel/advise to his grandkids. He was known as an extremely caring, faithful, and unassuming person, who will be deeply missed by all.
Funeral services will be held at noon, Saturday, April 15th, in the North Logan 3rd Ward Chapel, 1850 N. 400 E. A viewing will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Friday at Allen Mortuary, 420 East 1800 North, North Logan and at the Church on Saturday from 10:30-11:30 am before the services.
