David Alan Straup, 69, died Thursday, January 14. He came into this world February 9, 1946 in Salt Lake City, to Fred Straup and Virginia Nielsen Straup.
He grew up in SLC. Liberty Park was the best play ground. He and his friends spent many hours playing there. He attended schools there and graduated from East High School. Dave had many skills, some coming natural to him and others he attended schools to learn. Mechanics, electronics and various technical skills were among some he used the most. He lived in the Salt Lake Valley for about 14 years after high school.
In 1976 he met and married Lee Ann Smith. They lived in West Valley City, UT, Rexburg, Idaho and Cache Valley. They later divorced.
Dave lived in this valley for over 37 years. He loved nature and enjoyed the mountains. He hiked and snowshoed all over our mountains as well as other places. He always had a motorcycle, or two, or twelve and enjoyed working on them and riding them. He also had 4 wheelers and he and his boys enjoyed all of this together. He was an active person and liked to keep busy, whether it was work or play.
Dave's body just wore out; and he knew his time was short. He was always busy helping others sharing his talents and spending time with his family and friends as long as he could. We are grateful he is no longer suffering. He will be missed by those who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his children; Matt, Audrey, Andrew, and Patrick.
No services will be held as per his wishes.
