David Albert Mayo

March 23, 1919 — November 20, 2009

David Albert Mayo, 90, passed away Friday night, Nov. 20, 2009 at Logan Regional Hospital. Born on March 23, 1919 in El Paso, Texas but grew up in LaCrosse, WI. He graduated from Logan High School in LaCrosse where he was active in sports, drama and music. He attended LaCrosse State Teachers College where he was active in sports, especially gymnastics. He took a break in college while he served in the Army Air Corps overseas in Europe in WWII. He returned to college and graduated; then taught high school science and coached basketball, football and track for 2 years. He was recalled into the Air Force and served 32 years in Korea and many other places including Germany and Japan. From 1964 to 1965 he headed the Air Force ROTC program at U.S.U. He married Helen Blomquist in 1942 and had three daughters. While serving in the Air Force he got a Masters degree at San Francisco State University. He also graduated from the Air Force War College.
Dave was always very healthy and active – hunting, fishing, camping, gardening and Volksmarching.
David is survived by Helen Mayo, his wife of 67 years; daughters Cheryl Frair, Becky Farris, Debbie Mayo, 3 grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter.
There will be a gathering for family and friends on Friday, November 27th from 6-7 pm at the Allen-Hall Mortuary.
