February 8, 1914 — December 27, 2009

LOGAN, UTAH - David Arnold Ferrin, 95 passed away peacefully at the Sunshine Terrace in Logan, Utah on December 27th, 2009.

David was born on February 8, 1914 in Liberty, Utah to Arthur Moroni and Janet Lindsay Ferrin. He later moved to Eden, Utah then Redrock, Montana and finally settled in Logan. David graduated from Weber High School and later earned a bachelors degree in art from Utah State University. He married Elda Lear on August 1, 1958 in the Logan LDS Temple.

David loved art, his love of art began at an early age and continued through out his life, as a boy he would draw pictures with colored chalk on the schools blackboards for holidays. While growing up in Eden he watched some Sign Painters painting a new sign on the side of the General Store. He was so fascinated by this that he made up his mind right then and there that he was going to become a sign painter. During his college years he supported himself by working in the College Art Department. He also dressed windows at CC Andersons, Tingwalls Department Stores and Allen’s Ladies Store.

After graduating college, David stated his own business at 2nd north and Main he later moved to Canyon road in Logan. He called his business Ferrin Signs and he continued working until his retirement in 1985. For these years he was known by almost everyone in Logan as “The Sign Painter”. Many of his works of sign art can still be seen around Logan to this day.

David’s other great love was the outdoors. He loved sketching and photographing nature along with hunting and most of all fly fishing. Many of his late summer evenings were spent with his son David on one of the local rivers trying for that perfect cast and hoping to out smart a wily old trout. These moments were some his happiest time of his life.

David was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He served in many callings. His favorite was serving as the Ward Clerk of the Logan 11th Ward. He served in this capacity for three Bishops.

David was preceded in death by his wife Elda Lear Ferrin and all of his brothers and sisters.
