Dawn Abel Herzog passed away peacefully on January 15, 2024. She was 95 years old. She is survived by her daughter, Lee Ann (Bud) Fackrell and grandchildren Cameron (Niki) Johnson, Melanie (Derryk) Pope, Ryan (Heather) Johnson, Brady (Sharon) Fackrell, Megan ( Doug) McKee, Regan (Andrea) Fackrell, Chelsea (Jeramie) Rasmussen and Jordan (Caitie) Fackrell. Dawn is also survived by thirty great-grandchildren and 5 great-greats. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lavon H Herzog, her daughter, Shauna Herzog, and her great-grandson, Liam Kyle Johnson.
Dawn was born on May 10, 1928 in Lewiston, Utah. She lived on a farm in Lewiston, Utah, with her parents, Joseph Bromley Abel and Sarah Ann McMurdie Able, and five sisters. Dawn learned to work hard and laugh a lot as her family managed their farm. Dawn attended Lewiston Schools and graduated from North Cache High School. She married Lavon H Herzog in the Logan LDS Temple on July 7, 1948. They settled in Logan and had two daughters, Lee Ann, and Shauna.
Dawn has always had a strong testimony of our Savior, Jesus Christ, and she was a member of the
Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She has served in many callings over the years. She and Lavon served as Logan Temple Officiators for 12 years. Her first career was with Zion’s First National Bank, and her second career was an accountant position at the Utah Water Research Lab in Logan. Dawn was best known for her kind, sweet nature, her amazing cooking and sewing skills, and her loving and spoiling her grandkids. There was always room for one more in her home and we all felt appreciated and loved by her.
We want to thank Cameron and Niki Johnson and their family for their care and concern for Dawn especially over the past seventeen years she has been widowed. Our family is forever grateful for their unselfishness and including her in their immediate family.
Dawn will definitely be missed, but we know she is enjoying a joyful reunion with family she has missed for many years.
Dawn’s viewing will be at Allen Hall Mortuary 34 East Center Street, on January 26, 2024 from 6:00-8:00 PM. There will be a family viewing at 9:00 AM followed by a brief service at the Mortuary at 10:00 AM on January 27. She will be buried next to her husband in the Logan City Cemetery.
