D. Brooks Roundy, 88, passed away Friday, July 20, 2007 in Logan, Utah of complications related to cancer.
Brooks was born on January 3, 1919 to John W. and Mina Miles Roundy at the family home in Cache Junction. He attended elementary school in Cache Junction and some secondary education in Logan.
Brooks spent most of his life farming and ranching and was instrumental in clearing and breaking up land in Cache Valley, Wellsville Canyon and Rich County with his father and brothers. He was later assisted by his sons. Throughout his farming life he received many farming and conservation awards. Brooks loved the soil and his opportunity to work with the land. He loved fishing, hunting, gardening and the outdoors.
Brooks married Leona B. Feller on September 8,1938 in the Salt Lake Temple, before returning to Cache Junction to farm.
Brooks spent many years working in the scouting program and received many awards. He was a counselor with Bishop Murray Rigby and then became the bishop of the Newton Ward in 1964. He also served as an officiator in the Logan Temple for several years.
He is survived by his loving wife Leona and their four children, Esther (Marion) Heaps, Larry (Lynn Reese), Ron (Nancy Spuhler), and Wes (Jean Hull), 15 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren, 3 sisters, Mina, Donna and Blanche. He was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers and two sisters.
Brooks loved his family and spending time with his grandchildren. Brooks is loved by many, especially his family, and will by greatly missed by all who knew him. We love you Dad.
Funeral services will be held at noon on Thursday July, 26, 2007 in the Newton ward chapel. A viewing will be held from 7 to 9 PM on Wednesday at the Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center Street in Logan, and prior to services at the church from 10:00 to 11:30 AM.
