Dean L. Bartschi, age 96 passed away on August 3, 2016 in Brigham City, Utah.
Dean was born in Montpelier, Idaho, to Leo F. and Enes K. Bartschi. He is the oldest of eight children. He received his education in Paris and Montpelier.
He was called to serve in the Armed Forces when he was 23 years old. He served in WWII in the battle and campaigns at Ryukyus Islands in the Asia-Pacific theatre. He was a member of the Occupation Force serving as a truck driver responsible for hauling personnel and supplies in Hokkaido, Japan. Dean served in Cebu, Philippines, Saipan, Sapporo, the Marshall Islands, Okinawa, and Yokohama. He was in the service 2 years, 3 months, and 8 days until his release April 1946.
Dean married Shirley Whinham of Montpelier July 7, 1944 in the Logan LDS Temple. She preceded him in death December 2012. Their magnificent love endured 68 years.
He worked various jobs but mostly on the family farm until he was hired to work for the Union Pacific Railroad. Thirty-six years later, he retired as a R.R.Engineer on October 14, 1982.
He enjoyed spending time at the family cabin in Bear Lake Co. Idaho. He would go there every chance he got. He liked to fish, hunt and get out loads of wood. He loved hard work.
Dean held many positions in the church. He was a faithful member to the very end. He was called to be a temple officiator serving in that position nearly 11 years with his wife Shirley.
He recently had the opportunity to go on the Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. September 2015 accompanied by his daughter Kathy Price.
Surviving him are his four daughters, Marilyn Lugtu, Clearfield, Janette Bartschi, Brigham, Susan (Les) Bowman North Salt Lake and Kathy (Doug) Price, Brigham. He is blessed with eight grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. He loved his family and was always interested in their many accomplishments.

Funeral services were held August 8, 2016 at Maple Springs, Brigham City.
Interment was in the Montpelier, Idaho City Cemetery
