Dean L. Berntson, 87, passed away on November 3, 2014 in Logan, Utah of natural causes.
He was born July 3, 1927 in Logan, Utah, a son of Delbert and Eva Larsen Berntson. He graduated from Logan High School and later from Utah State University in Elementary Education with Phi Kappa Phi honors. Dean served in the U.S. Navy from 1945-1946. He was called as the first missionary from the Logan 15th Ward to the California Mission (serving part of the time without purse or scrip).
On September 11th, 1951 he married Julia Evans in the Logan LDS Temple. Their children and their spouses are Paul and Ruth (Mortensen) Berntson, Karen and Rick Baird, Annette and Trent Peterson, Carl and Stephanie (Steffens) Berntson, Bob and Nannette (Johnson) Berntson and Janet and Don Freeman.
Dean’s employment included school teacher at Ellis Elementary, Carpenter, General Building Contractor, Logan School District Plumber and Logan Stake Building Maintenance Supervisor. He diligently served in many church callings including Bishop of the Logan 1st Ward. He was a generous person to the less fortunate and did much on his own to help the needy. He enjoyed spending time with friends and family at Cottonwood Lake in Star Valley Wyoming.
Dean is survived by his wife Julia, their six children and their spouses, 19 grandchildren, three great grandchildren and sister-in-law, Pat Hancey. He was preceded in death by his parents and by his brother, Clair D. Berntson.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, November 8, 2014 at the Allen-Hall Mortuary Chapel, 34 East Center in Logan, Utah. Friends and family may call from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Friday, November 7th at the mortuary and again from 10:30 to 11:30 am on Saturday morning prior to the funeral.
