Dean Edwin Olsen 88, passed away peacefully at home
surrounded by his family on Saturday May 24, 2008.
He was born September 10, 1919 in College Ward to
Erastus and Emma Schenk Olsen. He was the seventh of
nine children. He has lived in College Ward his
entire life. He attended school in College Ward and
graduated from South Cache High School and Seminary.
He was a good student and he excelled in athletics
especially baseball.
He married Delores Johnston on June 21, 1946 in the
Logan LDS Temple. They would have celebrated their
62nd wedding anniversary next month.
He was an avid sports fan. In his younger years he
played a lot of fast pitch softball. He was a loyal
Aggie and Jazz fan and has been a member of the Big
Blue Club for many years, He was a season ticketholder
for Aggie Football and Basketball games for over 40
years.
He was a farmer and dairyman all of his life, and was
the recipient of many awards. He received the
Co-Operator of the year from Cache Valley Select
Sires; the Honorary Chapter Farmer Degree from the FFA
for his continuing support, and the Distinguished
Breeder Award from the Utah Holstein Association for
his outstanding work and accomplishments with the
Holstein dairy cow and the dairy industry. The Dairy
Farmers of Utah honored him and his family with the
Governor’s award given to a family who has united
their efforts to work successfully in the dairy
industry and their community. He also received the
Century Farm and Ranch award for his farm being in his
family for over 100 years. He took great pleasure in
associating with fellow Holstein Breeders and loved to
attend the shows and sales. He loved the Holstein
cow.
He was an active member of the LDS Church and served
in various callings. He took his responsibility as a
Home Teacher seriously and he and his Home Teaching
companion and friend Rick Hill served faithfully
together for many years.
He is the father of 3 daughters and six sons; Rhonda
and Bruce Hoppie, North Logan; Larry and Marjorie
Olsen, Charlotte, North Carolina; Ray and Carolyn
Olsen, Mendon; Shannon and LaVar Bair, Lewiston; Hal
and Cindy Olsen, College Ward; Jeff (deceased) and
Kathy Miller, Stockbridge, Michigan; Rex and Kathy
Olsen, Smithfield; Jan Brown, Herriman; Kelly and
Tene’ Olsen, College Ward.
He is also the proud grandfather of 46 grandchildren
and 40 great grandchildren with six more on the way.
Preceding him in death were his son Jeff Olsen, his
great Grandson Konnor C. Hugie, His parents, and all
of his siblings; Sylvan, Lloyd, Velma, Delbert, Don,
Ethel, Mabel, and Lorin (Webb).
Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on
Thursday May 29, 2008 in the College-Young Chapel,
2200 South 2394 West in College Ward. A viewing will
be held Wednesday May 28 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the
Allen-Hall Mortuary and from10:30-11:30 at the
College-Young Chapel prior to the services.
Interment will be in the Logan City Cemetery.
