Our dear Mother, Sister, Grandmother, and friend, Deanna Gayle Morley Davidson, passed away surrounded by loved ones on December18th, 2024 at the age of 86. Deanna was born in Salina, Utah to parents Thomas J. and Vaneda Martin Morley. Deanna married J. Bruce Davidson of Logan, Utah in Elko, Nevada on August 17th, 1959. They were sealed posthumously for time and all eternity in the Logan Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints on July 31, 2013.
Growing up in Salina, Deanna embraced all that a quaint rural town in south central Utah could offer her. Cherished memories of summer baseball games, holiday parades, beauty pageants, gardening to stock food for the sometimes-brutal winters, high school basketball games, and learning to sew, knit, and crochet. They made most of their clothing back then ya know. During her Senior year at North Sevier High School Deanna attended a concert played by a band from Weber State College. She remarked she had never heard a band play like that before and it literally took her breath away. That experience made such an impression on her that she enrolled in Weber State in the fall of 1955 majoring in Music and Physical Education. She transferred to Utah State University where she met Bruce. They married and shortly after graduating in 1960, Deanna and Bruce had their first child Stacy (Smith), and in each year following came Patti (Falor,1961), Gayle (Wolford,1962), and Thomas (1963). Deanna has been blessed with fourteen grandchildren and many great grandchildren whom she adored and treasured each of them as her own.
Deanna spent most of her days caring for their four children. She contributed financially to the home as well by performing alterations on clothing for Keith O’Brien’s department store in Logan. Sewing was a passion of Deanna’s, and she was darn good at it. She made most of her children’s clothes, blessing dresses and outfits for babies of family, friends, and neighbors. She made custom drapes and window coverings for commercial and residential uses. She displayed incredible talent and skill in knitting and crocheting, creating hundreds of beautiful and useful pieces made mostly as gifts for her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. The highlight of many years of creating such stunning pieces was Deanna being invited to crochet an alter cloth for the St. George Temple. She prayed for guidance in creating a piece that the Lord would be pleased with. The pattern she used is called “Summer Sun” with many aspects of the piece representing the striking beauty of the desert and the St. George area. When finished, the alter cloth was displayed at many Ward and Stake gatherings of the Relief Society in which LDS Sisters marveled at the intricate detail and perfection of the piece.
Deanna also knew her way around the kitchen. Being taught from a young age how to plan, prepare, and serve delicious culinary creations. She worked for Mountain Fuel for several years performing cooking demonstrations on how to cook with natural gas. She made sure to teach her children this important life-skill starting at a very young age, as she used to say, “serving someone a great meal can solve almost any problem”.
Mom was very competitive by nature it seemed. There wasn’t much that she thought she could not do and do very well. This was clearly evident when she discovered the game of golf. She thrived on developing the many skills and nuances of this difficult game. She was completely self-taught and quickly developed the skills needed to compete and whittled her handicap down to an 8. She won many tournaments in her flight while being a member of the Logan Golf & Country Club Ladies Association. She served as the Association President in 1986. She cherished every moment she was on a golf course. She and Bruce would travel around the western U.S. almost always playing golf along the way. Deanna and Bruce deeply appreciated, and they often spoke fondly of, the many close and dear friends that the game of golf brought into their lives. The love, concern, and affection you extended to our dear mother and father is profoundly appreciated, and a simple “Thank You” just doesn’t seem adequate when expressing our family’s gratitude for each of you.
A special thank you to the staff of Maple Spring’s and the superhuman effort of Hospice caretaker Becky Wiser of Aegis Home Health. Thank you for your patience, compassion, kindness, and expertise in caring for Deanna during her final few months. Your work often goes unnoticed by most, yet you demonstrated time and time again that it was never about you. It was always about Mom, and her well-being. We will always be grateful for your consistency and dedication in serving and caring for her.
A gathering of immediate and close family members will take place on December 28th from 10:00am to 11:30am at Allen-Hall Mortuary on Center Street in Logan. Interment will be at the Logan City Cemetery directly following the family gathering.
