Debra Lee Abinosa Wagner, 70, was born on Valentine’s Day, 14 Feb 1954, in Hilo on the Big Island of Hawaii. She was the twelfth child of Fausto and Trinidad Tamala Abinosa. Her passing on 27 December 2024 was due to complications following a long battle with diabetes and cancer.
After graduating from Pahoa High School in 1972, Debbie attended Brigham Young University-Hawaii Campus in Laie, Oahu, majoring in Secretarial Science and Office Management. It was there that she met her future husband, Vernon Wagner. In 1976, Debbie served as a full-time missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the California San Diego Mission. After her mission, she returned to BYU-Hawaii and majored in Music.
In 1978 Debbie married Vernon Wagner in the Laie Temple on Oahu, and together they raised their six children: Roston, Tricia, Kalen, Shawn, Jaren, and Elena.
In 1994 Debbie enrolled in night school at the Heald Business College and was awarded a Computer Applications Specialist Diploma in 1996. Soon after graduating, Debbie went to work for Powers and Associates as Document Processor where she worked until 1998 when she and her family relocated to Logan, Utah. She worked at Utah State University as Office Coordinator in the Multimedia & Distance Learning Services.
In 2008, Debbie and Vernon returned to Hawai’i when Vernon transferred to Wal-Mart in Maui and where he worked until his retirement in 2022. During that time, Debbie helped care for Vernon’s mother. Debbie was an active participant in the various organizations of the wards where they lived and served in the Primary, Young Women, and in the Relief Society organizations, including Relief Society President of the Kaneohe Fourth Ward. In addition to her membership in the church, Debbie loved her family. Besides her six children, she was also the proud grandmother to Killian and Calliope Wagner.
Debra Lee is preceded in death by her parents, six brothers, and three sisters. She is survived by a brother, Lawrence (Bonnie) Abinosa of Sharpsville, PA, and Mesa, AZ; and a sister, Rose Marie (Brian) Ernstrom, of Logan, Utah. She is also survived by her devoted husband, Vernon, six children, two grandchildren, and many cousins, nieces and grandnieces, and nephews and grandnephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Fausto and Trinidad Abinosa Scholarship Endowment Fund at Utah State University, 1590 Old Main Hill, Logan, Utah 84322-1590.
