Dee Wayman Bassett
Dee W. Bassett passed away at Logan Regional Hospital of a stroke, August 19, 2010. He was 93 years young. He was born January 10, 1917 in Mendon, Utah to Royal Clarence and Jenny Bell Bassett. He married Betty Jean Price of Wellsville, Utah on January 15, 1947 in Wellsville, Utah. They were later married in the Logan Temple on June 16, 1965. They have four children: Mark Dee (Linda) Bassett, Terry Bruce (Sharlyn) Bassett, Diane Betty Bassett and Becky DeeAnn Bassett. Dee lived his life in Mendon and Wellsville. He spent most of his life in Wellsville. Dee was a life long member of the LDS Church.
Dee attended local schools. He graduated from South Cache High School in 1935. He served in the U.S. Army from April 1942 until October 1945. He worked for Leon Stukki, Fulmer Mill and Cabinet, and Thiokol where he retired in 1982 with 20 years of service.
Dee has one sister: Sarah Muzetta (Bill Joy) Bassett, and five brothers Royal (Afton) Bassett, Edward (Edna) Bassett, Warren Bassett, Jack (Elaine) Bassett and Calvin (Loraine) Bassett.
Dee is survived by his wife, Betty; two sons, Mark (San Jacinto, California) and Bruce (Franklin, Idaho) and one daughter, Diane Bassett (Ogden). He has eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Dee is preceded in death by his parents, and all but one brother, Jack, and one sister-in-law, Loraine Bassett. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Becky Bassett and one grandson, Matthew Bassett.
Dee loved to fish and hunt. Someone once told Dee that he could catch a fish out of a bucket of water. Many happy times were spent in the mountains either hunting or fishing or just looking at the beauty that he was surrounded by. He loved to spend time with his family and friends. He will be missed by many.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM (noon) on Monday, August 23, 2010 at the Wellsville Stake Center, 30 South Center Street, Wellsville, Utah. A viewing will be held prior to services from 10:30-11:45 AM. Bishop Dave Cowley will be conducting. Interment will be in the Wellsville City Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family at
