Delores Johnston Olsen, 90, passed away September 4, 2015, at Cache Valley Assisted Living in Providence, Utah.
She was born April 30, 1925 in Bingham Canyon, Utah, to James George Johnston and Anna Mary Palmer Johnston. She was the second in a family of eight, three brothers and four sisters. Growing up, Delores's family moved a lot to find work during the depression. She loved the rough and tumble life in the mountains of Idaho; riding horses, climbing trees, and running. She loved to run and continued to run well into her eighties. Her family moved to Logan in July of 1942, when she was 17.
Delores married Dean Edwin Olsen on June 21,1946, in the Logan LDS Temple. Dean passed away May 24, 2008. They made their home together and raised their family in College Ward, Utah. Delores is the mother of nine children - three daughters and six sons. Rhonda and Bruce (deceased) Hoppie, Larry and Marj Olsen, Ray and Carolyn Olsen, Shannon and LaVar Bair, Hal and Cindy Olsen, Jeff (deceased) and Kathy and Gregg Miller, Rex and Kathy Olsen, Jan Brown, and Kelly and Tene' Olsen. She has 46 grandchildren, 94 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild! What a wonderful legacy!
Delores was a strong member of the LDS Church and enjoyed her callings as primary teacher, Sunday School secretary and furnished the sacrament bread for many years. She loved working in the Logan Temple with her good friend, Mildred Israelsen, answering the phones and working in the nursery.
When she lived at home she was a hard worker and wonderful cook. Her pies, raisin filled cookies and fudge couldn't be beat. She was a meticulous seamstress, sewing most of her own clothes and ours for years and winning blue ribbons at the Cache County Fair. She was also a great gardener. She hated dandelions and there were never any in her lawn if she could help it. She loved arranging flowers and did a very professional job. She also always liked to draw and really had a talent. She and daddy never missed an Aggie game and they loved traveling with the team on their away games. They loved to travel and visited the Holy Land, Hawaii, Alaska, New York, Florida, California, Oregon, Montana, a couple of Church History tours and countless trips to Yellowstone National Park.
The family would like to thank the staff members at Cache Valley Assisted Living and CNS Hospice for their unconditional love and affection for her and their tireless dedication to her care.
Delores is survived by her three daughters and five sons. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dean, son Jeff, son-in-law Bruce Hoppie, and great-grandson Konnor Hugie, her parents, her siblings and all of her in-laws.
