Dennis C. Nielsen, Logan
On October 28, 2005, surrounded by his four children, Dennis Clyde Nielsen left his earthly bonds for a joyous reunion with his wife and parents.
Dennis was born July 14, 1943, in Logan, Utah, to Gessel and Bena Nielsen. He attended Cache Valley schools and completed a bachelor’s degree in agriculture from Utah State University. He married Vicki Lynn Balazs on August 30, 1963, in the Logan LDS Temple. They have four children and ten grandchildren.
Dennis was faced with many trials, but he faced them with strength, and despite his paralysis and many other health problems, faithfully attended his children’s activities. He participated in several activities many would consider too difficult if faced with having to do them on crutches. He taught his children the value of hard work, good ethics, and integrity.
Dennis was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He served in several capacities, perhaps his favorite being the time he spent as Scout Leader in the Woods Cross 2nd Ward.
He spent his career working for the Soil Conservation Service. He volunteered with the Fillmore Jaycees, and with the Woods Cross City Neighborhood Watch program. He was honored by Woods Cross City at the 2002 Paralympics Torch Lighting Ceremony.
He was loved, admired, and honored by his children and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Vicki, and his parents, Bena and Gessel. He is survived by his children and grandchildren: Jef (Cressent) Nielsen, Nibley, UT; Tracy (Todd) Byington, Bountiful, UT; Dina (Charles) Cuthbertson, Cedar City, UT; and Brady (Tona) Nielsen, Sandy, UT. He is also survived by his brothers, Arthur, Alan, and Greg, and his sister, Susan.
Dennis was kind, compassionate, patient, and was always ready to serve others. He will be sorely missed by his family, his friends, and everyone on his e-mail list.
Funeral services will be Friday, November 4, at noon, at the Nibley Stake Center, 3701 South 450 West in Nibley.
