Dennis Leishman Miller
Dennis Leishman Miller, age 77, passed away peacefully in his home, Tuesday, November 1, 2005, with his family. He was born June 11, 1928, the oldest child of Alton G. and Inez Leishman Miller. He attended Cache County Schools and graduated from South Cache High School with the class of 1946. He attended Utah State University, and graduated from LDS Business College in Salt Lake City in 1951. He served in the United States Army during WWII and was stationed in Japan. He worked for the United States Postal Service, retiring in 1983. He worked a farm in Hyrum for many years, teaching his children the value of hard work. He met Margaret Archibald Glenn at a dance in 1947; they were married August 5, 1949 in the Logan Temple.
He was a member of Hyrum 1st Ward and served the Lord through serving others. He was a High Priest Group Leader, Sunday School President, home teacher and was an ordinance worker in the Logan and Atlanta Temples for many years. He and Margaret served a full time mission for the LDS Church in the Atlanta Georgia Temple from 1990 to 1991.
He loved horses and was president of the Hyrum Saddle Club and enjoyed riding in the mountains. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and boating. Dennis loved to play golf with his sons, grandsons, and his many friends; and has enjoyed several hole-in-ones and has many trophies from the Utah Sr. Games. Dennis enjoyed traveling and had the opportunity to see much of the world traveling with Margaret and his family.
Dennis dedicated his entire life to his family. His grandchildren will always have fond memories of playing at the Hyrum homestead, family reunions at Elk Meadows, trips to Maverik, and always picking a piece of hard candy from his candy jar. He is survived by David G. and Bonnie Miller, Centerville, Glen Miller, Salt Lake City, Debra and David Smith, Kaysville, and Bart Miller, Seattle. Dennis will be greatly missed by his grandchildren: Nichole and Will Peters, Robert Miller, Jaime Miller, Matthew Miller, Meghan Miller, Britten Miller, Ashleigh Miller, Alex Smith (currently serving in the Durban, South Africa mission), Elizabeth Smith, Katherine Smith, Maryann Smith, Sarah Jane Smith, and Christine Smith, and great grandchildren, Taylor Miller, Maranda Miller, Cole Peters, along with many nieces, nephews and friends. Dennis is also survived by his mother Inez Miller, brothers James Paul (Suzann) Miller and Richard Leishman (Sonja) Miller, and sister, Kathleen (Jay) Baugh. He was preceded in death by his father, Alton G. Miller, and his sister, Beverly (Dee) Christensen.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests that donations be made to the Alpine Hospice Center.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 5 at 12 noon at the Hyrum 3rd/10th Ward Chapel, 111 North 400 West in Hyrum. A viewing will be held on Friday, November 4, from 6-8 PM at Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center St., in Logan and on Saturday prior to services from 10:30-11:45 at the church.
