LOGAN, UTAH: Dennis Theron Speth, 87, of Logan, died, Sunday, February 1, 2009 at his home in Logan.
He was born May 1, 1921 in College/Young Ward, Utah the son of George Speth Jr. and Emma Nuttall Speth. Dennis married Velma Larsen on October 15, 1946 in Logan. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple in 1964.
He was raised in Logan. He served his country during World War II as a paratrooper in the United States Army 82nd Airborne Division where he received a Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. Dennis retired from City of Logan as a mechanic. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he served as a young men’s president for seven years, High Priest group leadership and hometeacher. He was an avid fisherman, golfer, gardener and bowler. He loved his time as a marshall at the Birch Creek and the Logan River golf courses. His greatest love in life was his family and especially his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Velma Speth, Logan; a son, Jim and Sandy Speth, Perry, Utah; three daughters, Tana Bingham, Willard, Utah; Connie Craft, Harrisville, Utah; Cindy Lu Speth, San Jose, CA; two brothers, George L. and Thelma Speth, Aberdine, Idaho; Andrew Morris and Mary Ann Speth, Providence, Utah; two sisters, Joy and Keith Crockett, Sandy, Utah; Colleen Obray, Providence; three grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Donna Cutler, Virginia Nopen.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday , February 4th at 12:00 pm in the Wellsville City Cemetery. There will be a viewing Tuesday evening from 6-8 pm and on Wednesday from 10:15 - 11:15 am at the Allen-Hall Mortuary. Condolences and memories may be sent to the family online at
