Dewey Fensky Beck

January 7, 1923 — May 31, 2006

Dewey Fensky Beck, 83, of Logan, passed away May 31, 2006 at the Logan Regional Hospital with his family at his side. Dewey was born January 7, 1923 in Wellsville, the third of six children, to Edward and Mary Fensky Beck. After his mother passed away when he was seven years old, Dewey was raised by his mother's sister and her husband, Nellie and Robert Bradshaw. He graduated from South Cache High School and following his military service received an associate degree in mechanics from Utah State Agricultural College.
Dewey married Ann Rock January 26, 1942 in Preston, Idaho. They were later sealed in the Logan Temple and spent 64 years together. He was a member of the LDS 19th Ward and served as secretary of the High Priests group. He was also a faithful home teacher for many
years.
Dewey entered the U.S. Army December 23, 1942 and was stationed at Fort Ord California until his unit shipped out during the invasion of the Phillippines. He was wounded in Luzon March 10, 1945 and shipped back to Dibble Army Hospital in California where he was awarded the Purple Heart. Eight months later he was released from the hospital and honorably discharged from the army.
Dewey worked in the service departments of Humphrey-Evans, Ben Redd and finally as a master mechanic at Axtell Chevrolet, retiring in 1985 after 35 years repairing cars. He also operated Axtell's tow truck; his children fondly remember accompanying him to retrieve many disabled cars in the middle of the night. He was respected for his ability, hard work and integrity.
On many vacations and weekends the Beck family could be found at Bear Lake or another favorite fishing hole. Dewey was a "master" fisherman as well as mechanic. He also enjoyed golfing with his friends.
Dewey is survived by his wife, Ann, his son Dennis (Laurel) Beck of Layton and his daughter Kathy (Richard) Birch of Hyrum, his grandchildren Stefanie (Paul) Auger, Eric Birch, Jonathan (Laura) Beck and Jordan (Stefanee) Beck, and two great granddaughters Cassandra and Elyssa Auger. He is also survived by his brother Calvin (Rosie) Beck of Fallbrook, California and cousins Rose (Melvin) Anderson, Robert Bradshaw, and Wayne (Betty) Bradshaw. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Gene, Stanley, and Orland, and sister Della.
The family would like to take this opportunity to thank Hospice Alliance, especially
Christine, Carol, Amy, the IHC Hospice and the wonderful nursing staff of the transitional care at Logan Regional Hospital for their professionalism and compassionate care. We would also like to thank family, friends and neighbors for their love and concern during our difficult time.
