Dick Maughan

February 28, 1944 — August 14, 2011

August 14, 2011—This being a beautiful summer day, a great man whom we hold dear to our hearts left this earthly world. He was a man who cared deeply for his family, a loving Husband, Father, Grandfather, and Great-Grandfather. Dick was a friend to everyone with a great personality that everyone enjoyed. He was born on Feb. 28, 1944, to George E. and Rosella (McBride) Maughan in Logan, Utah. Dick was the oldest child of four, followed by Sharon, Kevin, and Barbara. He met the love of his life and best friend Joyce C. (Jorgensen) Maughan and they married for all time and eternity, never leaving one another’s side for the next 47 years. They were blessed with 3 children, Patrica (Patty), Duane, and Shane.
He spent almost all of his life in Hyrum and was eager to help a neighbor and give service to others. He had great pride in his positions with the American Legion Post, Logan Regional Family History Center, Boy Scouts of America, his Military experience, as well as Hyrum City Fire Department, achieving the rank of Captain, and enjoyed the benefits of serving and getting to know others. He was a talented mechanic for many years of his life, and operated an auto repair garage with his brother Kevin in Hyrum. Later he found his career in life to be driving trucks and teaching others. He hauled livestock for many years for Evan Brown in Hyrum. He instructed diesel mechanics for many years at Bridgerland Applied Technology College, only to return to teach Commercial Drivers License training many years later, after retiring from driving a milk truck for Dairy Farmers of America in Amalga.
He always made great strides with the family reunions and seldom missed one. He had a great love for the outdoors, and traveling with family and friends on many great adventures through the beautiful mountains and enjoyed the desert as well. Dick was dedicated to his religion, holding many positions in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, where he was able to help others better understand their past. He helped many to find their lost relatives of earlier times and he and mother spent countless hours together searching for names, dates, etc. As Dick aged he became more and more tender hearted and we love him so much for that, he said that he didn’t worry about any of us but we knew better. He will be missed dearly every day!!!
He is survived by his wife Joyce Maughan (Hyrum, UT), daughter, Patrica (Patty) Maughan (Salt Lake City, UT), son, Duane [Tamer] Maughan (Clinton, UT), and son, Shane Maughan (Hyrum, UT), sister, Sharon Maughan (Albuquerque, NM), brother, Kevin [Denise] Maughan (Hyrum, UT), sister, Barbara [Matt] Peavler (Kemmerer, WY), granddaughter, Shandi Maughan (Las Vegas, NV), granddaughter, Shayla [Randy] De Jarnett, great-granddaughters Ember, Aspen, (Tremonton, UT), grandson, J.D.
