LOGAN - Don Spencer Campbell, 85, passed away on August 6, 2012, at Logan Nursing and Rehabilitation Center after a brief illness. He is now reunited with his eternal companion and sweetheart, Julia, whom he has missed for the past 24 years.
Don was born in Logan on September 7, 1926. He attended Logan City Schools. After graduating from high school he served in the army for two years, during World War II in Japan and Okinawa. After the Army, he finished his education at Utah State University, graduating with a teaching certification. He married Julia Pickett on June 5, 1951, the day after his graduation.
Don was an active member in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, serving in several bishoprics and Priesthood leadership callings.
The most important thing in dad’s life was his family. He was happiest when he was doing things with them. He loved working in his yard and garden, riding his motorcycle and driving his truck.
Don taught school for 36 years at Providence Elementary and enjoyed teaching the fifth graders. He could remember the names of his students and the year he taught them decades later. When he would see former students, they would thank him for being the best teacher they ever had. The first rule in his classroom was, we are a family in this class, and we will treat each other with respect and kindness, which was the same principle he used in his home.
He was married to his good friend Lovell Call for 12 years following their spouse’s deaths.
Don is survived by a brother, Raleigh Clarke (Joyce) Campbell, a sister Beth (Clyde) Muir and his children Christy (Edward) Woffinden, Jolene Campbell, Debra (Brad)Teare, Mike (Brenda) Campbell. He has 5 grandchildren: Gregory and Sean Woffinden, Ashley Teare, Austin (Anne) Campbell and Jessica Campbell. He has 3 great-grandchildren that he dearly loves: Ava and Xander Woffinden, and MaKenzie Campbell.
Don was preceded in death by his parents Alma and Lulu Campbell, a sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Quinn Newby, and his beloved wife Julia.
A viewing will be held Saturday, August 11, 2012 from 10:00 am - 11:30 am at the Crockett Ward (Lauralin Building) 325 Lauralin Drive, in Logan. A brief family memorial will follow the viewing and then the interment will be at Logan City Cemetery.
The family wishes to thank the staff at McKay Dee Hospital and especially the staff at Logan Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for their excellent and loving care of their father. Condolences and thoughts may be expressed to the family online at
