Donald Harvey Nyman (1942-2011)
Today, March 06, 2011, we lost our friend Donnie Nyman after a long and courageous battle with bladder cancer. Donnie was born January, 22 1942 to Harvey James and Marjorie Bench Nyman in Ogden, Utah. He was the first of six children. He attended schools in Logan. On June 30, 1959, he married Patricia Olsen. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS temple.
He learned his trade as a carpenter working with his father. He used those skills at his employment for the Defense Depot, where he was employed for over 35 years. He made many life-long friends while working there. After he retired, he continued to use his carpentry skills to enrich the lives of others.
He enjoyed fishing, riding horses, and spending time with his friends. Many summers were spent camping and fishing with family at his favorite fishing spot in Hebgen Lake in West Yellowstone. He delighted in the opportunity to meet with his close friends at their favorite eatery. Donnie’s outgoing and friendly personality was a gift which brought him innumerable friends and acquaintances. Donnie’s contagious laugh could always be heard as he gathered with his family and friends, and he never missed an opportunity to share one of his funny stories or jokes.
As a member of the LDS church, he served in many callings. While he was a leader in the boy scouts, he enjoyed many outings and horseback rides and was able to positively influence numerous young men, many of whom remained his life-long friends.
He is survived by his wife Pat; three children, Sandra (Steven) Kemp, Kirt (Sonja) Nyman, Libby (Richard) Israelsen; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; siblings, Jim (Ann) Nyman, Janice (Johnny) Griffin, Linda (Dale) Cooper, Debbie (Sam) Richardson, Cindy (Kyle) Scott. He was proceded in death by his parents, and his sister Dee Dee.
The family would like to thank the many close friends, neighbors and Spring Creek ward members who constantly gave their generous support throughout Donnie’s illness. Their frequent visits lifted his spirit and helped him endure his many trials. They would also like to thank IHC Hospice, the physicians and staff members at Dr. Ali Ben-Jacob’s office.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 10, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the College/Young Ward LDS Chapel. A viewing will be held at the Allen-Hall Mortuary 34 E.
