LOGAN, UTAH - Donald L Cowley, age 86, passed away May 18th, 2010 at the Sunshine Terrace in Logan , Utah .

Donald L. Cowley was born in Logan , Utah on March 15, 1924 to David Cowley and Catherine Hughes Cowley (Caddie). He attended the Logan City Schools and graduated from Logan High in 1943. On his high school graduation day, the mailman left a letter for him to report to Fort Douglas for military duty.

During World War II, Don served in the army in the South Pacific. Because of his ability to type and was made a company clerk and served with members of the Ohio National Guard.

When he came home, he found employment in Brigham City until he began attending USAC (now USU) and completed a two year course in Refrigeration and Air conditioning.

Don married Dorothy Rae Thomas April 2, 1948 in the Logan Temple .

Don worked at the Pepsi Cola Plant during the summers until completing his two year course. After graduating he worked in Salt Lake City . He later worked as a welder at Clearfield Navy Depot and as a sustitute mail carrier in Ogden at Christmas time. Don returned to Logan to enroll in a two year course in Automotive Mechanics. He then worked at Baugh Motor Co. as a automotive mechanic, at Sears as an Appliance Repair man, and at Thiokol before settling in at USU’s physical plant as a draftsman for the next 25 years; until his retirement in 1989.

Don designed and supervised the building of their home where his family has lived since 1953.

He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He served as the Elders Quorum Secretary, in the Sunday School Presidency, as Sunday School Superintendent, as Branch Clerk at Sunshine Terrace and later as Branch President of the Terrace.

Don enjoyed fishing, pheasant hunting, genealogy, working in his yard and bird watching. He enjoyed building things and maintaining his home. He also did clock repair for Thomas Jewelers.

He is survived by Dorothy, his wife of 62 years; six children, Doug (Erin) Cave Creek, Arizona; Dennis (Camille) Wellsville; Diane (David Stewart) Boise, Idaho; Donna (Chet Dahl) Oak Harbor, Washington; Darrell (Diana) Wellsville; and David (Holly) of Wellsville. He has 23 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren, one brother Roy Cowley of Salt Lake City , Utah ; a sister in law Mary (Grant) Wayment; and two brothers in law Richard (Viola) Thomas; and Robert Choate.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, his brother David (Mary Sue), his sister June (Warren Sutton), and his sister in law Vera Choate.

Funeral services will be held at 12 noon on Tuesday May 25th at Allen Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center Street in Logan. A viewing will be held on Monday evening, May 24th from 6 to 8 pm and on Tuesday from 10:30 to 11:30 am prior to services. Interment will be in the Logan City Cemetery.
